Happy Easter weekend, faithful music lovers! As the Big Bunny prepares his baskets and colors his eggs, lucky Austinites all over the city are on the hunt for rad local music. To aid your search, we recommend two nights of Latin flavor, and the hardest working honky tonk band around. Happy Easter, enjoy the weekend, and listen local!
Friday, March 30
Bidi Bidi Banda
@ Domain Northside (11700 Domain Blvd.) – 6 p.m. – Free
A cover band in only the loosest sense of the word, Bidi Bidi Banda is nothing short of extraordinary. By covering cumbia, salsa, and modern classics with a lush, full-bodied sound, Bidi Bidi elevates every song it performs. Part of my SXSW palette cleansing at Auditorium Shores, this local group is pure smile, soul, and positivity. Prepare to get dancing and grinning this Friday during Abloom!

Saturday, March 31
Superfónicos, Cilantro Boombox, La Frenitika
@ Mohawk (912 Red River St.) – 9 p.m.
Those hanging out at Mohawk this Saturday are in for a fantastic evening of hot, sultry, and scorching world music. Leading the way is Afro-funk act Superfónicos. By blending traditional Latin jazz and fusion with the serve and slide of funky wah-wah pedals, this local eight-piece is the real deal.
Also performing: Latin jazz groove masters Cilantro Boombox and the samba/cumbia heat of La Fremitika. Dancing shoes not encouraged. They’re required!
Sunday, April 1
Silo Road
@ The ABGB (1305 W. Oltorf St.) – 4 p.m. | The White Horse (500 Comal St.) – 9 p.m.
While most will be collecting Easter eggs this Sunday, honky tonk stalwarts Silo Road will be putting in work! For the first time in the history of this series, one of my picks is playing not one but two shows in the same day. If you don’t have holiday plans, then these torch-carriers of classic, down home country are what you should see. Start with beers at The ABGB; finish up your evening two-stepping at White Horse; and consider your Easter a success.
