Georgetown Square Lighting – A Beloved Tradition in Central Texas

Georgetown Square Holiday Lights 1

On Friday, November 29, Georgetown went from a charming neighborhood to a glittering square adorned with thousands of golden lights. Hundreds of people came to see the annual lighting of this historic square, even coming several hours early and camping out while waiting for the ceremony to start. The lights will be on every night until January 1, 2025, to be admired and enjoyed. This is a tradition that has been going on for many years, and every year people eagerly await the day after Thanksgiving, the day when the lights are illuminated.

Georgetown Square Holiday Lights 2024 – Best Time to Visit

Georgetown Square Holiday Lights

Georgetown Square is a great place to visit year-round, but the historic Christmas lights will only be on between November 29, 2024, to January 1, 2025. The ideal time to visit would be between 6:30-8:30 when it’s dark enough to appreciate the splendor, but early enough that you can explore the other attractions in the square. There are many nice restaurants to try, as well as gift shops, ice cream parlors, and more! The main attraction, however, is the giant, glittering Christmas tree in front of the Williamson County Courthouse. It’s the perfect place to take some nice pictures!

Georgetown Square – Where to Park?

Parking is usually pretty packed in the center of the square, but you can find free parking at Seventh and Rock Streets. There is also a parking garage located at Fourth and Rock Streets, which is about an 8-minute walk away from the square. Driving through the square is a good option if you don’t want to walk, or if the weather is cold. Walking through the neighborhood is recommended, however, as it is more immersive than driving. It is also ideal if you want to do some window shopping, or stop and take pictures.

One woman brought friends from all over the country just to view the Georgetown lights.

“We have a small company that has about 15 people, and we brought them up here specifically so they could see the lights,” She said. “We came up here specifically because it’s so cute, and the stores are open late. This is super festive.”

“I think they’ve put on a really nice job with decorating,” A first-time visitor said. “I was impressed with how completely the trees were wrapped.”
