Every day is a good day to be a foodie in Austin. People from all over the world bring flair to the food they serve. Dee Dee brings Thai street food straight from Thailand. Kemuri Tatsu-ya and Chi’Lantro blend Asian roots with Texas barbecue to yield mind-blowing dishes.

And hidden in Rock Rose at Domain Northside, Mia Italian Tapas & Bar brings its own little twist to the Austin food scene: a marriage of Italian and Spanish cuisine.

Lone Star Court Transports Funky Austin Vibes to The Domain

September 22, 2017 by Samantha Saenz Leave a Comment

Lone Star Court Austin

Boutique hotel Lone Star Court is a piece of Americana in the heart of The Domain

It’s often said there are two types of Austinites: those who live and play south of the river and those who do so on the north side. Though there may be a clear distinction between The Domain’s high-end sparkle and downtown Austin’s industrial/retro feel, Lone Star Court marries the two quite nicely.

The boutique hotel features 123 rooms, including three suites, and has been open since Christmas Eve 2013. Here you’ll find retro touches paired with modern amenities and convenience, in the heart of The Domain’s residential and commercial district. Recently, Lone Star Court invited me to spend a night experiencing its posh digs, for a staycation and taste of the north Austin life. [Read more…]

The Park at the Domain Makes Weekend Brunch All About the Atmosphere

September 22, 2016 by Brittany Highland Leave a Comment

The Park at the Domain Exterior

The Park at the Domain (Credit: Eric Highland)

Is brunch about the type of food you eat, or is it about the experience? For General Manager Robert Van Delden and the rest of the team at The Park at the Domain, it’s definitely the latter. This Austin-based restaurant has a mission to cultivate a relaxing, memorable brunch atmosphere every weekend in North Austin, and at their second location on South Lamar. Fortunately, the importance of delicious comfort food isn’t forgotten along the way. [Read more…]

Chinese Cuisine Meets Louisiana Po’ Boy at General Tso’Boy

July 6, 2016 by Talena Ramnath Leave a Comment

General Tso'Boy Austin Texas

Chinese-American meets po’ boy fusion at General Tso’Boy, located within Domain Northside’s Rock Rose district

Editor’s Note: General Tso’Boy is closed. The last day of service was Dec. 14, 2017.

Domain Northside’s Rock Rose district in North Austin is making a name for itself as Austin’s newest entertainment destination with bars, cafes and restaurants debuting constantly. General Tso’Boy, helmed by owners Jessica and Gary Wu, added their po’ boy fusion restaurant to the mix on June 21 of this year.

Pairing classic Chinese-American dishes like General Tso’s chicken with Easy Tiger toasted French bread, General Tso’Boy offers a complementing combination of salty, sweet and spicy flavors. [Read more…]

Birds Barbershop Opens Eighth Location at North Austin’s Domain

Birds Barbershop Domain Austin

Birds Barbershop at The Domain (Birds Barbershop)

The lead singer grins at me as she belts out an indie rock-infused cover of Coldplay’s latest radio hit. I return the smile and sip my icy cold Shiner beer, sitting back on the plush, mid-century modern couch, taking in the moment.

No, I am not at some private SXSW showing. I’m just waiting to get my haircut at the newest location of Birds Barbershop at The Domain. [Read more…]

The Domain Creates Mass Appeal With Infusion of Local Austin Businesses

The Domain Austin

The Domain in North Austin

Look; I get it. The first time I went walking through The Domain, I passed places like Louis Vuitton, Tiffany’s and Michael Kors, ALL IN A ROW, and my first thought was, “Oh, crap. I need to get out of here immediately.”

All pretentiousness-bashing aside, I’m here to talk about why you shouldn’t necessarily jump to conclusions when you think about North Austin’s Domain. While your preconceived notion probably suggests it’s an uppity tourist trap with nothing to offer us common Austinites, I’m happy to report that you’re wrong. [Read more…]

Cocktails with Somersault at The Domain Will Make You Flip

August 15, 2013 by Cris Mueller 3 Comments

Mixologist Ryan Baird at Somersault at The Domain

Mixologist extrordinaire, Ryan Baird

In cocktail terminology, the word “flip” is one that has been in use since 1695. But when you want to turn that flip into a sexier, hand-crafted cocktail of 2013, you’ll find it at 11601 Domain Drive at Somersault.

Still in its early stages of creating innovative cocktails for fans of infusions, molecular cocktail gastronomy and gourmet edibles, Somersault is far from adolescent. With the creativity and sheer skill of Bar Manager and mixologist Ryan Baird, you are in for a unique and sometimes upside-down cocktail experience. [Read more…]
