Did you know we have a frozen banana paradise right here in Austin? Bananarchy is a local food truck specializing in delicious, vegan desserts. Just imagine a frozen banana plunged into chocolate, and then sprinkled in yummy toppings like M&M’s or Oreo crumbles. One taste and you’ll be hooked. I know I was!
If you have a major sweet tooth like I do, then you’re probably constantly on the lookout for delicious and unique desserts. Instagram does a good job of helping with my discovery process, especially when I want a local treat. Now I can have my cake and eat it, too, thanks to Austin-based HayleyCakes and Cookies.
As a kid, Mindy Sepeti watched her mom bake cakes and pies in the kitchen. During the holidays, she couldn’t wait for her mom to bake a batch of sugar cookies, so they could decorate them together. These moments were ingrained in her memory, but it took her a while to realize they didn’t have to remain in the past. [Read more…]
As soon as I pitched this article, I realized I’d bitten off more than I could chew (cheesy pun intended). I liken cupcakes to the Hemsworth brothers: it’s impossible to pick a favorite. Few people consider cookies for breakfast. But on a cloudy Saturday morning in Austin’s West Campus neighborhood, I was doing just that. Sampling tarts, cupcakes and macaroons while moving trucks brought dozens of UT students back to school in the area around me. I felt like a kid sneaking treats in Willy Wonka’s factory.
