This past weekend, the skies above Circuit of The Americas were dark and foreboding. Over three miles of world class track loomed before me. Off in the distance, motorcycles buzzed like a mob of angry bees. The air was full of adrenaline soaked tension.

Headed to The New Movement on Lavaca
In a basement off Lavaca sits The New Movement comedy theater and conservatory. Originally located east on Rosewood, The New Movement was started by comedians Chris Trew and Tami Nelson in 2009. Since then, their success has led to a second location in New Orleans.
The New Movement has created a kingdom of comedy where patrons can catch improv, sketch and stand-up shows produced by talented and driven comedians.

Bill Frisell and the Big Sur Quintet will perform in Austin on Sunday, March 8th

The Cactus Cafe is bringing one of the world’s leading jazz guitarists, Bill Frisell, and the Big Sur Quintet to the Texas Union Ballroom this Sunday, March 8th, to examine the work of one of folk music’s preeminent figures: Woody Guthrie.
Frisell’s eclectic fountain of rock, country, progressive, jazz and blues music is well known in musician circles throughout the world. But Frisell is looking forward to his Austin gig.
“The first time I came to Austin was in the early ‘90s,” he shared. “I played at the Continental Club and that became, in a way, a home base for me. I’ve played there many, many, many times.” [Read more…]

A walk through the basement of the Paramount Theatre is like a walk through time: its history is literally written on the walls. Over the years, many of the estimated 10,000 visiting artists have left their mark on the famed theatre by signing the walls downstairs, just outside the dressing rooms. Passing through the hallway you’ll notice that performers from BB King to Joan Rivers have left their ‘John Hancocks’ – many with a personalized message or illustration. If you’re like me and are prone to serious FOMO (“Fear Of Missing Out,” as the youths call it), South By Southwest can be a very stressful time of year. Every March, SXSW attracts thousands of music, film and technology enthusiasts from all over the world to participate in much-talked-about concerts, film premieres, interactive events and more. Along with this influx of entertainment and people come hundreds of parties, many of which don’t require any sort of festival credential to attend.
Sounds great, right? This means you can enjoy free SXSW events and parties without having to sell your Volvo in order to purchase a swanky badge.

Owen Egerton curates One Page Salon in Austin
Are you one of the many people who fear public speaking? Imagine how much scarier public speaking would be if you were reading something as personal as a self-authored piece of literature.
Austin’s Owen Egerton has a safe and supportive event where people can do just that, and it’s called One Page Salon.
The concept of One Page Salon started several years ago when Owen Egerton and his wife wanted to hang out with fellow creative types, drink wine and share ideas. Egerton, a lifelong writer, was fascinated by the flow of thought and creativity at these hangouts and wanted to foster an environment where a wide range of people could express their ideas publicly and get feedback.
