Le Politique Austin French Food

France has always been an interest of mine. In high school, I took French instead of Spanish and relished learning about the culture. Most importantly, I loved learning about the food.

Through my Austin food adventures, I’ve found a little piece of France. Le Politique, located in downtown Austin, is a local brasserie that doesn’t disappoint with its selection of classic and delicious French fare.

Baton Creole Serves Bayou-style Cajun From Food Truck in East Austin

January 21, 2019 by Jonas White Leave a Comment

Baton Creole Food Truck Austin

While covering many of my favorite food options in Austin, I’ve learned that every food trailer has a story. For most, the story began relatively recently. A few years back, perhaps. It was then a dream was formed, idea hatched, menu created, trailer purchased. This relatively recent timeline is to be expected in a city with the rapid growth of Austin.

And then you have the OG’s. The Original Gangsters. The trailers that made their names before it was commonplace to expect fine dining meals to come out of a vehicle. Baton Creole’s story began back then. And now, the Cajun and Creole cuisine creator has Godfather status in Austin’s food trailer scene. Or Godmother status, perhaps. [Read more…]

Guest article by Mandy Heintzelman Smith

When my husband and I visited Austin from Los Angeles to look at homes before our move, we searched for a neighborhood close to downtown. At the same time, we wanted a big back yard and an amazing school district. When we found our beautiful, old home in Westlake, we knew we were in the right neighborhood for our young family. The bonus surprise is how much we enjoy Westlake’s local restaurants. Here’s a newbie’s guide to our favorite Austin-based restaurants for families in the Westlake area. [Read more…]

Introducing Ciclo restaurant and neighboring Live Oak inside Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Austin! Ciclo is the latest concept from world-renowned restaurateur Richard Sandoval, led by Chef de Cuisine James Flowers (TRIO, Wink, Asti Trattoria, Cipollina).

Ciclo and Live Oak dance with Latin flavor, with the latter taking menu inspiration from Guadalajara, Mexico. I had the pleasure of experiencing both concepts. The way they complement each other makes Four Seasons a superb destination for dinner and drinks.

Love you to pieces, Amazon Prime, but there’s something magical about going to the movies. Whether it’s the communal experience of watching a film with a large audience or the sheer size of the screen, “Netflix and chill” will never fully replace the old school theater experience.

But the formula can always be improved upon. By combining the comforts of home with top-notch eats and a cinema experience that rivals the best in the industry, Moviehouse & Eatery is rapidly becoming Austin’s new go-to for a dine-in movie going experience. [Read more…]

Wholesome. That’s the word that rose to mind when I walked into south Austin’s newest bakery, ThoroughBread. ThoroughBread’s doughy delights were once available only by special delivery, or at coffee shop pop-ups hosted by Spokesman and Once Over.

Now baker and owner Ryan Goebel has opened the dearest little bread and cookie shop for Austinites to enjoy. [Read more…]

Korean Street Food in Austin at Kimchi Jon's

Kimchi pancake at Kimchi Jon’s on East Sixth Street

Noticing a new food trailer on your block is like seeing a new neighbor moving in. Questions flood your mind. When should I introduce myself? Will I be stopping by often? Does this unformed relationship have long-term potential? Can they cook?

When I saw Kimchi Jon’s parked in front of Zilker Brewing Company on East Sixth Street in August, I was excited to have Korean food so close by. I was hopeful that “Jon” could deliver on supplying one of my favorite cuisines. [Read more…]
