Welcome to the weekend and the frozen tundra of our once balmy Austin, Texas. Rather than hide from our current cold snap, let’s head outside into a city full of sizzling live music. This weekend, we recommend exciting soul, award-winning Americana, and gravely-voiced folk/rock. Stay warm, stay awesome, and listen local!

Donovan Keith w/Western Youth
@ The Continental Club (1315 South Congress Ave.) – 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. – Event page
Bursting from the stage in a blaze of horns, drums, and pure soul power, Donovan Keith is one of Austin’s most exciting acts. Combining velvety pipes with James Brown showmanship, Mr. Keith explodes with energy and excitement that must be seen to be believed.
Also playing with Donovan is rootsy Americana band Western Youth.

@ Threadgill’s North (6416 N. Lamar Blvd.) – 8-10 p.m. – Tickets
If you don’t know, now you know. Guy Forsyth can do literally anything. Whether he’s frontmanning one of his several bands, sitting in on a jam session, or tickling his guitar alone on stage, the 2018 winner of Austin Music Award’s “Male Vocalist of the Year” never ceases to impress.
Big throaty Americana with a southern rock snarl and smooth blues thump, Forsyth blends his influences into an exciting concoction of musical bliss. Not to be missed.

Jon Dee Graham
@ Saxon Pub (1320 S. Lamar Blvd.) – 10 p.m. – Tickets
Speaking of award-winning musicians from Austin’s storied past, Jon Dee Graham is joining a cavalcade of local talent for an incredible evening of music. Gravel-voiced roots folk/rock in the vein of Barry McGuire, Graham’s slice of life lyrics cut to the quick. “Beautifully Broken” sings like a confessional of personal failures, while “Big Sweet Life” chugs along an ear-pleasing late ’90s alt rock riff. The final set of an exceptional evening of music.
