Best Soups in Austin: 7 Places For Some Warm Goodness Near You

January 22, 2022 by Emma B Leave a Comment

The Soup Peddler
Best Soups in Austin – Image Credit: The Soup Peddler Facebook Page

The days are shorter, and the nights (and days) are colder. It’s time to put on a sweater and snuggle into a calming bowl of your preferred soup. There’s a soup for every appetite in Austin, whether it’s a nourishing bowl of matzo balls in chicken broth or a sumptuous hot & sour soup. So, there’s nothing like a warm cup of soup to soothe your bones and spirit.

Take advantage of the uncommon coolness in the air by getting a bowl of brothy Chicken & Sausage gumbo, Tomato Basil soup, or Tortilla soup from one of these 7 Austin eateries. *

Most Popular Soups in Austin

Soups are usually served warm or hot, and they are prepared by blending meat or vegetable components with stock, milk, or water. The weather is so pleasant that it would be hard not to feel like sipping on some hot, hot soup.  Here are some of Austin’s most popular soups.

Tortilla Soup

Tortilla soup is a tomato (or chicken)-based Mexican-inspired soup. Corn, beans, and, more often than not, jalapenos and cilantro are all common ingredients. It’s cooked for a while before being topped with crispy tortilla pieces.

Shoyu ramen is a soy sauce-flavored ramen noodle meal. Shoyu is one of four forms of tare (seasoning) used in Japanese ramen broths, the others being shio ramen (salt ramen), miso ramen (fermented soybean paste ramen), and tonkotsu ramen (pork bone broth).

Cheese Soup

The liquid base for cheese soup is made consisting of milk and/or broth, such as chicken broth or stock. Half-and-half, beer, bread crumbs, butter, eggs, onion, onion juice, garlic, vegetables including broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, and celery, spices, and seasonings are all possible additions.

Chicken Consommé

A consommé is a soup or broth that has been diluted with egg whites to produce a clear fluid. Consommés are rich in flavor and maybe meat-based or vegetarian and in this case, it’s made with chicken.

Restaurants With the Best Views in Austin

Austin Restaurants With a View – Oasis Restaurant overlooking Lake Travis (Credit: RConinePhoto)

Guest article by Michele Eilertsen

I select dining spots based on a specific criteria: which genre(s) of food will be served, whether there are gluten-free options available, price point, and, above all, what type of views they offer.

My sentiment is this: If I wanted to enjoy dinner while staring directly at a shrub, wall, or some combination of both, then I’d throw a quick meal together and eat on my back porch.

Fortunately, the following eight Austin restaurants boast views that are spectacular. Paired with a delectable selection of sustenance, they offer a delightful experience all-around.
