  • Arrive Early or Late: To avoid large crowds, consider visiting during the early evening or later at night. You’ll enjoy the lights without as much foot traffic, plus the twinkling displays look even more magical after sunset.

  • Dress warmly: Austin winters can be chilly, especially in the evenings. Make sure to layer up with cozy clothes, hats, and gloves to stay comfortable while you explore the outdoor displays.

  • Buy Tickets in Advance: Peppermint Parkway often sells out during peak hours, so buying tickets ahead of time ensures you get in without the hassle of long waits at the entrance.

  • Bring Comfortable Shoes: You’ll likely be walking a lot as you explore the different light displays. Opt for comfortable, weather-appropriate shoes to keep your feet happy as you stroll through the park.

  • Check for Special Events or Performances: During your visit, look out for special entertainment events like live performances, themed activities, or visits from Santa. Check the schedule on the Peppermint Parkway website for any updates on special shows.

  • Snap Photos, But Be Mindful of Others: The displays are picture-perfect, so don’t forget your camera! However, be considerate of other visitors when taking photos, especially near popular displays or areas with a lot of foot traffic.

  • Plan for Parking: If you’re driving, plan ahead for parking. Peppermint Parkway is located in a popular area, and parking can fill up quickly. Arriving early or using ride-sharing services might help save you time and stress.

  • Bring Cash for Snacks & Souvenirs: While credit cards are typically accepted, it’s always a good idea to have cash on hand for smaller vendors selling holiday treats or unique souvenirs.

  • Stay Hydrated: While you’re enjoying the holiday festivities, don’t forget to drink water, especially if you plan on walking around for extended periods. Austin’s weather can vary, so be prepared!

  • Check the Weather: Austin’s weather can be unpredictable in the winter. Make sure to check the forecast before you go and adjust your plans accordingly, especially if rain is expected.

  • Have a Plan for Post-Event Activities: After the light displays, consider visiting nearby attractions or restaurants to make the most of your night out. Austin has some amazing food spots that are perfect for a cozy meal after your visit.

  • Check the Weather
December nights in Texas can get chilly. Dress in layers, wear a warm coat, and bring gloves or scarves, especially if you plan to stay out after dark.

  • Visit on Weeknights for Less Crowding
If you prefer a more relaxed experience without the crowds, visit on a weeknight when the displays are still stunning but less crowded than on weekends.

  • Plan to Enjoy Multiple Viewing Areas
Don’t just stay in one spot! Explore Memorial Park, the PEC Headquarters, and the Historic Downtown Square to see the full extent of the light displays. Each area offers a unique experience and a different perspective on the holiday magic.

  • Bring Snacks or Drinks
While there are food and drink booths in the area, bringing your own snacks and warm beverages (like hot cocoa) can keep you energized and cozy as you walk through the displays.

  • Check the Schedule for Special Events
Don’t miss out on unique events like the Lighted Hooves & Wheels Parade and the Living Nativity Pageant! Check the schedule ahead of time to plan your visit around these special activities.

  • Respect the Local Community
The Johnson City Christmas Lights Spectacular is a community event, so make sure to respect the area by staying on designated paths and keeping noise levels low. Keep your space tidy and be considerate of others enjoying the displays.

  • Support Local Vendors
Stop by the Garden Club Booth or other local vendor booths to purchase handmade decorations or treats. It’s a great way to take home a special souvenir and support the local community.

Korean restaurant in Austin - Chilantro BBQ

Korean restaurant in Austin – Image Credit: Chilantro BBQ Facebook Page

Austin has seen a rise of Korean restaurants during the past ten years. There are restaurants that provide all-you-can-eat (AYCE) Korean BBQ, juicy crispy Korean fried chicken, comforting spicy tofu stews, chewy noodles, and soft bulgogi, along with plenty of banchan and soju.

Before we get onto the best Korean Restaurants in Austin, we’ve answered some frequently asked questions about the best Korean food in Austin. Check them out below.

Korean Food in Austin – FAQs

What are some highly rated Korean restaurants in Austin, TX?

With ratings of 4.5 and above, Jan Chi Korean Cuisine & BBQ, Korean Grill, Jjim – Korean Braised BBQ, K-Bop, Oma’s Kitchen, and SOHA 소하 are just some of  Austin’s top restaurants. But there are a lot more. You can check out more details about these restaurants below.

What are some Korean restaurants with a large number of reviews in Austin, TX?

Korea House Restaurant, Charm Korean Bbq, Chosun Galbi, and Chi’Lantro are a few restaurants with the best-reviewed, authentic Korean Food in Austin. All of these restaurants are listed below, check it out for more details.

Who offers Korean delivery in Austin?

Who doesn’t like comfort food from the comfort of their house? There are some of the top Korean restaurants with excellent delivery options including K-Bop, Korea House Restaurant, bb.q Chicken Highland Village, Jan Chi Korean Cuisine & BBQ and DK Sushi & Seoul Korean Restaurant.

What are the most popular Korean food dishes?

  • Kimchi – We cannot discuss Korean cuisine without bringing up kimchi. Every Korean table has the beloved spicy sidekick known as kimchi. A bed of pepper, garlic, ginger, scallion, and fermented cabbage is salted and preserved to make it.
  • Galbi – Another Korean favorite. Although the word “rib,” or “galbi,” can really refer to both chicken and pork, when it is used in its purest form, it refers to thick slabs of meat that have been marinated in a mixture of soy sauce, sugar, and minced garlic before being grilled over an actual fire.
  • Bulgogi – If Galbi is Korean BBQ, then bulgogi is Korean cuisine in general. The Joseon Dynasty considered this well-known, sweet meat dish, which has been around for more than a thousand years in various forms, to be haute cuisine.
  • Hangover Stew – Given South Korea’s devoted drinking culture, it’s not surprising that their hangover-curing culture is equally as developed, with a beautiful selection of spicy and steaming stews and soups.
  • Samgyeopsal – The atmosphere in Samgyeopsal restaurants is the finest part of dining there; it’s like a wild party with soju shots, sizzling pig strips on the grill, and cries for “one more serving, please!” It is covered in Ssamjang and is served with lettuce, perilla leaves, sliced onions, and raw garlic kimchi.
