Mesmerized by a school presentation when he was in third grade, a little boy began a lifelong love affair with reptiles.

The little boy, Michael Foux of Austin Reptile Shows, grew up and got married. Now he and his wife, Christie, are trying to build an enclosure for their friend Titus, an African Spur Tortoise who can grow to over 200 pounds.

Oh, and there’s also the little matter of the 60 or so other reptiles that live in their house, as part of their growing collection.

This weekend, the Austin Book Arts Fair will celebrate one of mankind’s greatest inventions: the humble book. Taking place on the beautiful grounds of the Villa at Laguna Gloria, owned and operated by the Austin Museum of Art, the Austin Book Workers promote books and book arts throughout Central Texas. Having registered over 50,000 participants per year in recent years, the rally has a reputation for breaking records and burning rubber. Why BarCraft Austin Is Becoming a Local Phenomenon

Imagine 120,000 people live in a stadium shouting at the top of their lungs. They aren’t watching soccer, football or a concert. They are watching world championship eSports, specifically StarCraft II.

Competitive live video game tournaments are taking the world by storm, and Austin has been impacted as well. As a matter of fact, Austin City Limits’ Moody Theatre is hosting a StarCraft II event May 26th-27th. Fans from all over the world are coming to watch a live match right here in Austin. Austin is a huge city for the sport of disc golf, and getting started is easier than you might think.

In fact, this weekend is the perfect time to get involved because Austin’s Waterloo Disc Golf Club is hosting the World’s Biggest Disc Golf Weekend at Zilker Park. Stop by Zilker between 9 AM and 5 PM this Sunday, May 6th, to meet the community and show off your skills on the fairway. Or, in our case, to wrestle through groves of trees looking for lost discs.

Seriously, you don’t have to know what you’re doing to come out to the World’s Biggest Disc Golf Weekend. It’s an event designed to raise awareness of the sport and get new people excited and involved. Play is free is you have your own discs. If you don’t have discs yet, they will be available at Zilker Park for an affordable price.
