Austin loves to show off during springtime. It’s our ideal season: SXSW has just come and gone, bluebonnets are blooming and festival season kicks into high gear. The many districts and neighborhoods of Austin vie for our attention with unique events and outdoor activities.

One up and coming neighborhood in Austin’s northeast side is stepping up their game in 2015 with exclusive events you’d expect to see much closer to city center. The Mueller neighborhood is playing host to springtime concerts and an Earth Day festival that’s rapidly becoming one of the premier early spring events in town. A unique blend of old world Austin and new world organic welcomes patrons of Independence Fine Foods. The recently burgeoning entertainment district in far south Austin has urban sprawlers from all over the city trekking south of the river to discover the next great bar or cup of coffee. Located across from Moontower Saloon in an unassuming storefront off Manchaca Road, Independence Fine Foods is nestled in the heart of an emerging destination for local libations and chow.

The first time I saw Independence, I thought it was an international food store. It wasn’t until I ran past the restaurant that I sniffed hints of coffee and…is that roast beef?

These days, the term “Austinite” is almost synonymous with “foodie.” For myself and many of my friends, having fun often means eating food. That being the case, my plans are now solidified for the evening of April 15, 2015. Maybe yours will be too!

Support Central Texas Farm to Table at Farmgrass Fest

Spring in Central Texas stirs up an urge to relive outdoor traditions, like live music and grilled foods. To that end, Farmgrass and Simmons Family Farms have harvested an idyllic farm setting in Niederwald, Texas to host this year’s Farmgrass Fest on May 3, 2015.

Just over thirty minutes south of Austin, you’ll experience the farm fresh aromas of the grill and scenic views to bring you close to the land and the farmers whose hands pull the roots from the ground.

Who says you need a fancy wristband or expensive badge to enjoy SXSW? During SXSW 2015, three Austin radio stations are showcasing some of the most popular artists in town.

Austin’s own public radio station KUTX is hosting KUTX Live at The Four Seasons, 93.3 KGSR will be presenting their showcase from The W Hotel and 101X will be broadcasting live from Buffalo Billiards.
