Ever been to a watch a band not knowing what to expect, and then been blown away?

Stepping into Stubb’s on Red River, we didn’t know what to expect from Quiet Company. Great articles have been written on the band, and their accolades are widespread.

Texas Hill Country Town of Andice Claims World’s Best Burgers

Posted on September 11, 2012 by Eric Highland

Tucked away in practically the middle of nowhere is a tiny little town. You won’t find much in this town, yet people make the trek out there quite frequently.

To give you an idea of how small this place is, in the 2000 census, the population was 25. In 2005, the population was still…25.

Nothing in this little town changes much, except the name. Originally called Stapp, then later renamed to Barry’s Creek, this spot is now on its third name: Andice, TX.

Funny thing is, Andice is not the name the town wanted. They wanted Audice. But postal officials misread the name and Andice became official in 1899.

Why People Make the Trek to Andice, Texas

Our friend Tyler told us about this little town near Georgetown.

Tyler regularly bikes long distance, and one of his favorite destinations is the general store in Andice. It’s a 38 mile trip one way from Austin, and there isn’t much out there besides a couple of churches and the store. [Read more…]

True Hill Country BBQ at Burnet Feed Store BBQ

Posted on September 3, 2012 by Eric Highland

After visiting the amazing Reveille Peak Ranch just northwest of Burnet, we decided to stop in at Burnet Feed Store BBQ, a Texas Hill Country landmark since 1977. But this spot wasn’t always a BBQ Joint.

Burnet Feed Store BBQ Origins

Burnet Feed Store BBQ

In 1977, James and Drucilla Banner opened the Burnet Feed Store to provide for local ranchers in the Hill Country around Burnet. The Banners eventually sold the company, and though the business continued under new ownership, profits declined through most of 2000-2007. In December 2007, the place went up for sale. It was purchased by Lorenzo Romero and Rucker Ashmore. These two had the vision of turning Burnet Feed Store into a Hill Country BBQ restaurant, and that’s exactly what they did.

One of the largest restaurants in Burnet with seating for over 120, the Burnet Feed Store BBQ is now one of the busiest spots in Burnet on any given day. [Read more…]
