Seattle (where the Austinot moved from at the end of 2011) has an extraordinary number of farmers markets year-round and takes great pride in every one. My personal opinion is that the Austin Farmers Market rivals or surpasses what I experienced in Seattle.
Fruits and vegetables, bread and bakery items, meat, honey, cheeses…the Austin Farmers Market has it all. [Read more…]

Eric already had some discs that he used back in Seattle, but I was disc-less. Beginning our search for discs, we turned to something familiar: Sports Authority. Alas, the Sports Authority employee I spoke to on the phone admitted that their selection was dismal and they only sold single discs, not sets. Bummer.
But! The employee was awesome enough to recommend a disc golf store here in Austin, called Disc Nation. Disc Nation was closing at 4 PM, so we shimmied down to Slaughter Lane to get the haps. [Read more…]

I love BBQ. Yes, love is a strong word, I know…but I could honestly eat good ol’ fashioned Texas BBQ three days a week and never tire of it.
I’m always looking for “the best of.” So I mentioned to one of my co-workers that I wanted to find the best BBQ restaurant in Texas. [Read more…]

We arrived before the crowds, so we were able to find street parking on Red River, right off of 6th. A short stroll (a little bit longer, since I realized I forgot my I.D. and had to go back to the car) brought us to our destination: Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar.
I must confess that being new to the scene, Austin bars are all about the same to me right now. But Pete’s is a place I’ve been wanting to visit for a long time, and it didn’t let me down.
There’s nothing like good drinks, happy people, and singing at the top of your lungs to your favorite songs. [Read more…]

Santa’s Ranch is located one exit south of the San Marcos outlet malls, so it’s a pretty quick drive from Austin.
We got there early and parked in line on the service road outside the Ranch. By the time the gate opened, there was a long line of vehicles behind us, waiting to get in.
For the $22 per vehicle admission, we got a huge treat! We drove through nearly a mile of dirt road, past countless Christmas light scenes that were entertaining and imaginative. Believe it or not, there are over one million Christmas lights displayed in over 100 scenes and animations! [Read more…]

When we get ideas into our heads, we usually want them done fast. This found us desperately calling hitch shops in Austin, TX, early on Saturday morning. The places we called either weren’t open, or they didn’t have the hitch we needed in stock. We couldn’t wait three days. We wanted to get our bikes out to Fredericksburg that day.
Finally, we found a shop that had our hitch in stock: Discount Hitch and Truck Accessories, on Ben White at South Congress. Sweet. Could they get us in for an appointment [Read more…]

Yesterday, we got to pick up our matching 2011 Raleigh Roadsters from The Peddler.
The Peddler is located at 51st/Duval, close to the UT Intramural Fields. I love shopping local, and The Peddler is definitely a local bike shop.
My husband and I went in a couple of weeks ago for the first time. We determined that we wanted upright bicycles for casual riding, and Ron directed us to the Raleigh Roadsters. In 2011, Raleigh made a 3-speed and an 8-speed Roadster. Ron sent us out to [Read more…]

It was the perfect day for a drive and time outdoors. The Natural Bridge Caverns runs tours every 40 minutes at the most, but we got our tickets immediately and were touring 10 minutes later. [Read more…]
