Cold treats are a must in Central Texas with the insane heat we get. But even at this time of year, it rarely gets “cold,” and it’s nice to have a place to stop and indulge after a long day of work. Ice cream has long been an American favorite, but with health-consciousness on the rise, frozen yogurt has become an awesome alternative.
Enter Yogurt Planet.
Yogurt Planet is located at The Triangle, in Central Austin. Their self-serve yogurt bar is host to 12 flavors of frozen yogurt that change regularly, along with delicious condiments that range from blueberries to gummy bears.
Open seven days a week from 11:30 AM-11:00 PM, Yogurt Planet lets you pay by the ounce. I love this flexibility, because sometimes I’m up for a meal’s worth of yogurt and fruit, and other times I just want a small dessert cup. Okay, I’ll be honest. Sometimes I want a huge dessert cup. But you get the point.
It’s also fun to try to invent fun combinations of yogurt and condiments. When Eric and I visited most recently, we started with some coconut yogurt…
Then we added almonds and chocolate syrup…
The result was an Almond Joy!
Yogurt Planet is always full of happy customers. The employees seem to be constantly sweeping the floors and wiping down the bar and tables. There’s nothing like a clean place to eat – we sure appreciated it!
Yogurt Planet received the 2011 award for “Best Frozen Yogurt” from The Austin Chronicle, and now we know why! Yogurt Planet has good customer service, a clean environment, a great selection, and a delicious end product.
Look for us at the Yogurt Planet. We’ll be back.

Great article! I am glad to hear you enjoyed our frozen yogurt. It was a pleasure having you two over to create novel yogurt concoctions. On behalf of the whole Yogurt Planet family, feel free to stop by again for new flavors and toppings. We’d be glad to have you! Hopefully soon you’ll see a ‘My Favorite Recipe’ board hanging from our wall.
Cheers,
Dusty

Dusty, I never thought non-fat yogurt could taste so good, but it really was awesome! So we came up with this “Almond Joy” type-mix…what are some mixes that you guys have come up with or your customers have come up with that you think we should try?
Dustin Vegas says
Eric,
Oh, that’s a hard question. I’ve seen people create some impressive recipes. Next time you come in, try mixing the New York Cheesecake with the Graham Cracker Pie. It’s essentially a NY cheesecake with the crust and all. Add some blueberries or strawberries to suit your taste. A bit of mint flavored yogurt is nice in there as well.
The combinations are endless, to be honest. Ask any of the employees if you are having trouble deciding. During the slow period of the day we spend out time creating and experimenting. Anybody at the counter should be able to steer you in the right direction.

Hey Eric and Brittany!
This is a great article. I hate you a little bit because now I would love some yogurt! Anyways, this is a great review. Yogurt Planet is one of my favorite places to visit because I don’t feel nearly as guilty eating a lot of it. Some of my favorite combinations are the Red Velvet Cake with Brownie Bites (I know, I may as well be eating a candy bar.), Greek Yogurt with honey, granola and blueberries, and Irish Mint with Brownie Bites. Other times I like to just have a Chocolate and Vanilla swirl with no condiments added. I think your Almond Joy yogurt was pretty clever though. I have to start thinking of some new creations to share with you guys!

Hey Haleigh! Your mixes sound yummy! I definitely want to try the Irish Mint with Brownie Bites. Who said playing with food was bad…this kind of experimenting is so fun. 🙂
