June 29, 2017 by Bill Tucker Leave a Comment

Austin Weekend Local Music June 30

This weekend, we celebrate our nation’s independence with live local music with a focus on the rock side of the Austin music scene. Whether you want your holiday weekend chill and mellow, or you feel like rocking out, we’ve got you covered with this week’s concert picks. Enjoy and, as always, listen local!

A. Sinclair, Star Parks

@ Hole in the Wall (2538 Guadalupe St.) – 11 p.m. – $5 cover

Kicking off the weekend with a genre-bending evening of live music is exactly how we like to roll in Austin, Texas. Star Parks, an easy breezy blend of upbeat, indie rock soundscapes, opens a fine Friday show at Hole in the Wall. Mix that with local favorite A. Sinclair’s brand of spacey, guitar-heavy grunge rock, and you have a musical jump start to your holiday weekend.

Bob Schneider, Calliope Musicals, The Avacados

@ Nutty Brown Cafe (12225 US-290) – 6:30 p.m. – Tickets

An eclectic blend of Americana rock, southern funk, and singer/songwriter poetry, Bob Schneider is an Austin favorite. His latest record, “Best of Funk 2016,” is a varied and electric collection of live tracks recorded in 2016. If a quick spin Spotify doesn’t make you want to see him live, nothing will. Also playing are local indie darlings, Calliope Musicals, and surf rockers, The Avocados.

Ringo Deathstarr

@ Hotel Vegas (1502 E. 6th St.) – 9 p.m. – Free

After catching The Black Angels at their ACL Live taping last month, I have a new appreciation for psychedelic music. Enter Ringo Deathstarr, a brain-bending blend of smack-in-the-face guitar fuzz and 80’s shoegaze. Long time attendees of Levitation Fest (formally Austin Pysch Fest), Ringo Deathstarr promises to deliver a mind trip unlike anything else in Austin.
