With the week winding down to the finish line, it’s time to look ahead to the live music Austin has to offer this weekend. This time around we present a Latin Black Sabbath cover band’s EP release, a former contestant from NBC’s “The Voice,” and Memphis soul with an ATX kick. Live music is alive and well in Austin, so get out there and enjoy it.

Brownout (EP Release) w/Tameca Jones
@ Antone’s (305 E. 5th St.)
One of the legendary Grupo Fantasma’s many spin-off bands, these Latin rockers are celebrating their latest EP release this Friday at Antone’s. Though they started out playing horn-laden versions of Black Sabbath tunes, the group is branching out to an intoxicating blend of rock, funk, and Latin jazz. Expect the unexpected during what’s sure to be an incredible performance. Also performing is the reigning queen of Austin soul, Tameca Jones.
Saturday, May 27
Nakia & the Blues Grifters
@ The Highball (1120 S. Lamar Blvd.)
An incredibly versatile artist, Nakia and his tender tenor can handle everything from sensual soul to room-shaking rock with ease. With the Blues Grifters, Nakia swings from crooner to raspy Joe Cocker belt in the space of a song, all wrapped in luscious blues Stevie Ray would respect. A wonderful artist in a classic venue equals a Saturday night to remember.
Sunday, May 28
Soul Man Sam and Charlie Belle
@ The Skylark Lounge (2039 Airport Blvd.)
Packing decades of hard-worn blues and funk into a pint-sized package, Soul Man Sam continues his Sunday night residency at The Skylark Lounge. Joining him is Charlie Belle, a phenomenally talented brother/sister duo who crafts ear candy pop with finesse and care. Two very different styles, one wonderful night of music.
