While Austin’s foodie mantra may sing breakfast tacos and queso, cheesecake is some of the yummiest stuff around town. Local businesses such as The Celia Jacobs Cheesecake Experience, Upper Crust Bakery, Capital City Bakery and Stregare Cheesecake Company successfully whip up some of the best cheesecake to be found in the great capital of Texas.
If your fork is ready, let’s dig in.
1/ The Celia Jacobs Cheesecake Experience
With tiny cheesecake bites, Celia Jacobs cheesecakes are not only delicious, but they’re also adorable. One bite fits in the palm of your hand and is just enough to satisfy a small sweet tooth craving.
The blueberry bite I tried was sweet and rich, with light blueberry undertones swirled into the cream cheese. It was like a taste of summer! This violet treat was similar to a blueberry pancake, but softer and creamier. The Celia Jacobs chocolate espresso bite also stood out. It was like a creamy bite of a mocha or chocolaty frappe. Dark and rich, with a strong coffee kick.

2/ Upper Crust Bakery
Located between 45th and 46th Streets on Burnet Road, Upper Crust Bakery offers delicious cheesecake in a cozy, welcoming environment. With your first step into the building, the smell of freshly-baked goods washes over you. Edible goodies range from full cakes to small cupcakes, and the cheesecake comes in classic flavors, like chocolate and plain with lemon zest.
The chocolate cheesecake includes a rich flavor with that strong cream cheese taste I love, creating a unique combination of sweet and tangy. The chocolaty crust perfectly complements the rich, sweet and creamy filling.

3/ Capital City Bakery
I visited Capital City Bakery for the first time recently and tried the chocolate peanut butter cheesecake. The plain filling mixed with chocolate perfectly satisfied my craving for cream-cheesy-chocolaty-goodness, and peanut butter was smoothed over the top.
The best part of it all: I found out afterward that it was vegan! I had no idea it wasn’t made with traditional cheesecake ingredients, even as I was devouring it. Capital City Bakery offers a vegan cheesecake experience that is deliciously equivalent to original cheesecake elements. Amazing!
This sweet bakery has created a warm, welcoming environment on East Cesar Chavez–the perfect picture of what a local bakery should be.

4/ Stregare Cheesecake Company
The most unique take on the cheesecake business I’ve found in Austin takes place at Stregare Cheesecake Company. Stregare creates custom cheesecakes for parties, weddings or just for you if you’re craving cheesecake on a rainy day and want it delivered to your home.
They offer a wide range of flavors, including bacon torte, champagne & strawberries, cranberry, Dreamsicle, eggnog, Nutella, pina colada and many more. Operating out of a commercial kitchen that isn’t open to the public, Stregare primarily sells via online orders and through catering.
If you’re like me and want to give it a try in person, you can get the dulce de leche or pina colada cheesecake at local Tex-Mex restaurant, Baby Acapulco’s. The dulce de leche tastes subtly sweet and creamy and closes the meal perfectly.
In addition to these four businesses, I need to check out OMG! Cheesecakery, as well as the treats available at Cream Whiskers, Hey Cupcake! and Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop. For now, these are the best cheesecake spots in town I’ve found.
