I never pictured myself driving all the way across town to buy a cupcake. But once you try Hey Cupcake!, I’m sure you’ll understand my craving.
Started almost six years ago out of a trailer on South Congress, Hey Cupcake! now has a total of four locations in the Austin area:
-The original SoCo trailer
-A retail store on Burnet, which doubles as the company bakery
-A trailer on Research Blvd. near Braker Ln.
-A trailer out on 620
What Makes This Cupcake
The Hey Cupcake! menu is home to some flavors that you can always find, with seasonal choices popping in and out throughout the year. My personal favorites right now are 24 Carrot (carrot cake without the raisins) and Sweetberry (strawberry cake with strawberry cream cheese top). No matter the flavor, irresistible moistness and richness are always present.
You can expect to find the Pumpkinator in September: pumpkin cake, cream cheese frosting, graham cracker crumbles sprinkled on top. Closer to the holiday season, Mint Rushmore will be the seasonal flavor available (chocolate cake with mint buttercream frosting).
I love the store’s new oven boxes. They’re adorable and way better than gift wrap. There are individual cupcake-sized boxes, as well as boxes that fit up to three trays of mini cupcakes (18 total). The oven boxes are affordable, and add a unique touch.
Seriously, doesn’t eating cupcakes make you feel like a little kid at a fun party? Talk about comfort food.
What the Future Holds for Hey Cupcake!
Director of Business Development Matt “Petey” Peterson tells me that the company is planning expansion in a number of different directions. A new line of products is coming this fall, and plans for a Hey Cupcake! Vending Machine with an interactive touchscreen are also in the works. On top of that, I’ve heard a rumor from a reputable source about another Hey Cupcake! trailer which may be coming to the Barton Springs area in the near future. I hope to have more info for you soon!
The cupcakes are awesome, but the customer service at Hey Cupcake! is also extremely memorable. Petey says it well: “We pride ourselves in making the eating experience fun. Cupcakes should always spread joy, but we want to go the extra ‘smiles’ to really connect with our customers.”

My personal favorite is the Michael Jackson! Also, I’m pretty interested to see a cupcake vending machine, ha!
