The weekend is coming, faithful readers! And don’t look now, but SXSW is less than a month away. Before the city is dominated by showcases, badge-toting tourists, and more product placement than the Super Bowl, let’s dig some live music. This weekend, we recommend an exceptional rock guitarist, fascinating funk/groove music, and down-home outlaw country. Listen local, friends! [Read more…]

Kady Rain Reigns as Austin’s Pop Music Queen
From the age of 13, Austin native Kady Rain knew she wanted to sing. During her formative years, she channeled her creative energies into everything from music camp to her own high school band. But it wasn’t until her split with a local sludge metal band did she settle on her current pop direction.
Black Fret Awards $250,000 to Austin Musicians at 2018 Black Ball
It’s tough to be a musician in the Live Music Capital of the World. On any given night, world-class artists ply their trade for the contents of a tip jar. Enter Black Fret. By building a community of industry folks and music lovers, with a heart of keeping Austin music alive and well, this nonprofit provides an answer to the issues plaguing the local music scene. And on the Dec. 7 Black Ball extravaganza at the Moody Theater, Black Fret awarded $250,000 to deserving musicians. It was an evening of giving, music, and all around good vibes. [Read more…]
