Three weeks into the new year and we’ve already been awash in rad local music. No reason to stop now! This weekend, we recommend multi-cultural folk, a blues/soul/pop princess, and chill synth worthy of the highest praise. Live it up and listen local!
Friday, Jan. 25
Ley Line w/Little Mazarn
@ Cactus Cafe (2247 Guadalupe St.) – 8:30 p.m. – Tickets
By blending Latin rhythms, Americana folk, and stunning harmonies, Ley Line inspires heads to nod and hearts to soar in equal measure. The group’s latest single, December’s “The Well,” is a mellow cumbia-inspired slow burn full of rich percussion, breathtaking vocals, and a warming sense of chill and calm.
Other standout songs include the danceable snap jam “Cinnamon Fingers” and the tender folk lullaby “Window.” Sublime music performed with grace, and tact. Also playing is ambient folk duo Little Mazarn.

Sydney Wright
@ Family Business Beer Co. (19510 Hamilton Pool Road) – 6 p.m. – Facebook event
Ready for a perfect Friday evening? Take a drive to beautiful Dripping Springs, grab a pint at the charming Family Business Beer Company, and check out the stunning Sydney Wright. Fresh off her sensational performance at last week’s Black Fret Season Opening showcase, Wright’s hypnotic blend of blues, soul, and pop is pure magic. Whether she’s developing complex beats through loop pedals or crooning to a soulful funk ballad, this local artist will rock the house like no other. Worth the drive!
Saturday, Jan 26
Sometimes a Legend w/Pollen Rx, Chill Bill, The Teddys
@ The Electric Church (5018 E Cesar Chavez) – 9 p.m. – Event page
Dreamy synth pop with an ear for funky bass lines and head-nodding rhythms, Sometimes a Legend is one of those bubbling under the surface acts waiting to break out. Tunes like “Adrenaline” tap into the electric drive of a romantic entanglement through wah-wah synth, tight horns, and soul slam. “Study” putters along the track with falsetto vocals and spare instrumentation, driven by a pleasantly hyperactive drum beat. Great fun at a great venue.
Also playing are garage rock band Pollen Rx, psych pop act Chill Bill, and spacey rockers The Teddys.
