Support Austin’s Youngest Entrepreneurs on Lemonade Day Austin

If there’s a greater feeling than drinking cold lemonade on a hot day, maybe it’s drinking cold lemonade that has been crafted by the tiny hands we all love.

Picture this. You’re walking through Pease Park, reminiscing about last weekend’s birthday bash for Eeyore, when you spot three children behind a lemonade stand. One in a Spider-Man costume, one in a Wonder Woman costume and one in a Hulk costume. As you order a glass of their homemade lemonade, you realize you’ve just met three of Austin’s youngest entrepreneurs.

Get ready to find yourself in this situation on May 7, 2016: Lemonade Day Austin. Anywhere you go, you may see a lemonade stand run by a child or group of young friends who are not only looking to make some money for themselves, but also to donate to the charity of their choosing. [Read more…]

Camp Our Way Summer Camp Gives Adults Place to Unplug and Play

Imagine spending a weekend in Texas Hill Country, surrounded by other adults who just want to be kids for 72 hours. The sun is shining, and the only decision you have to make is whether to pass the time kayaking, banana boating or crafting till your fingers are covered in glitter. And everywhere you look, there are cocktails and craft beer.

What is this place? Where did all this alcohol come from? And when was the last time you went this long without checking your cell phone?

Volunteers Unite for Women Build Week and Habitat for Humanity

Girls Night Out for Austin Habitat for Humanity kicked off National Women Build Week

On April 28, 2016, women volunteers in pink hard hats gathered together in the Lowe’s parking lot off Brodie Lane for Girls Night Out, the kick off event for National Women Build Week. In partnership with Lowe’s locations across the country, Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program encourages women to dedicate their time to assist in building homes for families in need of affordable housing.

This service impacts recipient families by providing them the independence of homeownership. At the same time, volunteers are educated in construction skills as they build the framework of a house. The event revolves around the idea of empowering women to inspire each other as they make a tangible difference in their community. [Read more…]

Curiosity Encouraged During West Austin Studio Tour 2016

Now in its fifth year, WEST (West Austin Studio Tour) takes place over two weekends in May. Participants are encouraged to seek out remarkable works of art during this free, self-guided tour.

Voyager Nights Stimulate Growth of Experimental Music in Austin

On June 13, 2015, the first VoyagerFest commenced in the cozy West Austin backyard of The Rusty Mule. A good number of the bands that performed were based in progressive rock and its many subgenres, but the festival also showcased avant garde, electronic (intelligent dance music), and other acts with experimental and innovative properties.

Beginning on Jan. 24, 2016, VoyagerFest launched a concert series called Voyager Nights, a place for bands from the previous year’s festival to continue performing and spreading awareness for the second annual event. Last month, VoyagerFest was approved as a 501(c) (3) organization, having officially established the mission to promote and support experimental music and art.
