With another week in the books, it’s time to kick back and plan a weekend full of musical fun. This time around, we present you with charming Americana, moody 80’s synth, and an inspiring rock band’s EP release. Enjoy the weekend and–as always–listen local!
Friday, August 18
Rebecca Loebe
@ Radio Coffee & Beer (4204 Manchaca Road) – 8:30 p.m.-1 a.m.
A charming gal with a stunning voice, Rebecca Loebe’s sweetly sensitive and emotionally bare brand of Americana country cuts straight to the heart. Tunes like the soul-crushing ballad, “Lie,” showcase her effortless vocal chops, while “Down to the Wire” has the drive and pulse of a Fleetwood Mac song. Any opportunity to see this unique talent should not be missed.
Saturday, August 19
The Hours Quiet w/Migrant Kids, KINFIGHT, Obsolete Machines
@ Swan Dive (615 Red River St.) – 9:30 p.m.-2 a.m.
Filled to the brim with 80’s synth licks and dramatic vocals, The Hours Quiet conjures up images of Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Austin’s own Night Drive. More dance party than shoegaze, songs like “Bring You Down” bounce with funk guitar and percussion, while “Consciousness” introduces guitar and pounding guitar crunch for a slower, more theatrical vibe. A diverse and interesting band that honors our electronic past, while avoiding the retro act stigma. Also playing are indie rockers, Migrant Kids, synth pop group, KNIFIGHT, and electro-glam act, Obsolete Machines.
Quiet Company EP release w/Darkbird, MCG, more
@ Barracuda (611 E. 7th St.) – 8 p.m.-12 a.m. – Tickets
If rock is more your thing, you can’t do much better than Quiet Company as they celebrate the release of their new EP, “Your Husband, The Ghost.” Forceful and powerful, lyrics teeming with heartfelt emotion, Quiet Company harkens back to the glory days of pure indie rock. No key-tars, no racks of samplers. Just guitars, drums, and exceptional songwriting. Also playing are the theatrical rockers of Darkbird and female-fronted indie pop act, MCG.
