The Austinot Weekend Concert Picks: Sept. 15-16

Austinot Weekend Concert Picks Sept 15

Hungry for a weekend full of live, local music? Congrats! You live in the best possible city for just that. This weekend, we recommend a fresh-faced folk singer, a soul/R&B man celebrating a new record, and an alt-rock veteran of the Austin music scene. Plenty to choose from here in the Live Music Capital of the World. Enjoy, and–as always–listen local!

Friday, Sept. 15

Amy Rosalyn EP Release Show

@ Radio Coffee and Beer (4204 Manchaca Road) – 8-11:30 p.m. – Free

Touching, truthful, and brimming with ear-tickling wordplay, Amy Rosalyn is a powerful new voice in the Austin folk singer/songwriter scene. The title track to her debut EP, “Precipice,” is a sparse acoustic guitar tune, punctuated by hollow drums, piano chords, and vibraphone licks. Also be sure to check out her beautiful video full of wide, sweeping expanses filmed via drone. A great opportunity to see an artist on the rise.

Ray Prim Austin Musician

Ray Prim Record Release Show w/Suzanna Choffel

@ The North Door (501 Brushy St.) – 7 p.m. doors – Tickets

Pure soul groove with an R&B heartbeat, Ray Prim celebrates his latest record, “To Whom It May Concern,” this Friday at The North Door. The record is a stirring mix of everything fans love about this talented soul man: eclectic influences, bluesy rhythms, and powerful vocals. Off the record, “Find Suit” blends Al Green smooth with a pulsing R&B beat, while the acoustic guitar ballad “No Need” takes it down a notch into the forlorn world of lost love. Opening for and probably playing with Prim will be long-time Austin songstress, Suzanna Choffel.

@ Barrel O’ Fun (1911 Aldrich St. Suite 120B) – 6-9 p.m. – Free

This Saturday, do dinner and a show at Alamo Mueller’s in-house bar/music venue, Barrel O’ Fun. After catching a movie, check out alt-pop-rock stalwart, Jen Zava. A veteran of the Austin music scene since 2001, Zava’s sound is roots Americana spiced with world influences and delivered with a bluesy swing. A distinctive artist anybody with an ear can enjoy, Jen Zava is the perfect way to complete a Saturday night out.
