Kick Back at These 4 Bars in the Expanding Mueller Community

April 24, 2017 by Caitlin Johnson Leave a Comment

Mueller Lake Park

Mueller in Northeast Austin started 10 years ago as a 700-acre community. It has grown into a thriving, developed neighborhood. With public parks, farmers’ markets, and some of Austin’s hottest businesses, Mueller has it all.

It’s about time someone created a bar crawl guide for the expanding Mueller neighborhood. The Austin spots on this list are nestled within a small, walkable area on the east side of I-35, in the main Mueller development.

1/ Barrel O’ Fun at Alamo Drafthouse Mueller

The new Barrel O’ Fun bar is more than deserving of its name! Choose between 45 beer taps and the soda fountain-themed cocktail menu (with an emphasis on barrel-aged offerings). Whatever it is you like, swing by for a drink or two to feel like a kid again.

Note that Barrel O’ Fun is kid-friendly only until 8 p.m. After that, it’s grown-up party time!

If you’re searching for the vibe and taste of an Irish pub, head to B.D. Riley’s Irish Pub in Mueller. Just keep your eyes open for the large golden tap handle and the bright red entrance.

Here you’ll find both Irish and local craft-brewed beers, alongside an upscale pub menu. B.D. Riley’s has all the fun, traditional Irish decor you could want, plus ample outdoor seating.

3/ WhichCraft Beer Store

Beer lovers are in heaven at WhichCraft’s new Mueller location. There’s an extensive wall of taps, room for groups, free Wi-Fi, and locally-roasted coffee. But it’s the staff members who will make your visit a great experience. It doesn’t matter whether you’re an advanced beer drinker, new to craft beer, or “hate” beer, the WhichCraft team can find the craft beer (or cider or mead!) for you.

4/ L’oca D’oro

Don’t miss a stop by L’oca D’oro, an Italian restaurant in Mueller with light and modern eats. The relaxed environment makes it a great place to enjoy a glass of wine. Pair the wine with light appetizers while you enjoy the view of Mueller neighborhood park through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

East coast born and bred but believe me, I moved to Texas as soon as I could! Since moving to Austin in 2016, I’ve been busy learning about the communities that make this city so beautiful and weird.

Since moving here, I've been writing and sharing the dreams and ideas behind some of the city's most beloved brewers and distillers. What I love to write about most though, is a story of a struggle that has been overcome or a dream that was chased. Those stories make me realize just how lucky I am to be here pursuing my passion.

When I’m not writing or doing the hard research about this city’s booze, I'm usually stuffing my face with local eats and exploring new spots on the Greenbelt. Read all about my boozy adventures on my blog, Big World, Small Girl.
