Austin Weekend Concert Picks

Welcome to the first edition of The Austinot’s Weekend Concert Picks. Every week, we’ll be featuring one show recommendation a day for the coming weekend. As always, we’ll focus on local Austin artists only!

For the upcoming weekend, Feb. 16-18, 2017, we’re highlighting three record release shows and a performance by a local legend. Have a great weekend!

Letting Up Despite Great Faults EP Release with Moving Panoramas, Football Etc. and Migrant Kids

@ Barracuda (611 E. 7th St.) – Doors at 9 p.m.

Letting Up Despite Great Fault’s celebrates the release of their new EP, “Alexander Devotion.” With a catalog of breezy, danceable synth-pop mixed with introspective lyrics, these ATX upstarts are quickly making a name for themselves. Also playing: Moving Panoramas (mellow girl-pop), Houston-based Football Etc. (rock) and Migrant Kids (emotional indie).

The Cover Letter EP Release with Canvas People

@ One-2-One Bar (1509 S. Lamar Blvd.) – Doors at 10 p.m.

One of my Top 10 bands to check out at SXSW 2016, The Cover Letter is back with a new EP, “Cities of Sand,” that expands upon their sing-along bluegrass with hints of garage rock, folk and indie slow-burn. Also playing: the local indie darlings of Canvas People. Prepare your vocal chords. You will be singing/shouting along.

Molly Burch with Cross Record and Julia Lucille

@ Mohawk (912 Red River St.) – 9 p.m.

Another record release celebration (lots of those this weekend), Molly Burch’s debut album, “Please be Mine,” promises more of the smokey, jazzy indie pop that defines her sound. Backing her up is the minimal yet powerful duo, Cross Record, and singer/songwriter Julia Lucille.
