Walking into Bullock Texas State History Museum is always a thrill for me. I get chills just thinking about all of the history held within the walls of the building.

As a self-proclaimed fashionista, I’m extremely excited about Bullock Museum’s newest exhibition, called “Fashion Forward.” Not only does it feature pieces from renowned designers, but they are all from an annual award ceremony that put Texas on the map for fashion.

It’s easy to think about the special appearances, film premieres, concerts, and other cool things coming to Austin in March. But did you know an army of volunteers staff the events and lounges at SXSW? They work long hours, answering questions and scanning badges with smiles on their faces. It’s quite a commitment!

I volunteered at SXSW back in 2018 and it was a marvelous experience. And I would recommend doing it for more than just the free badge. From someone who lived it herself, here’s what it’s like to be a SXSW volunteer.

When I think of creating my own wardrobe, my first thought is about designing and sewing clothes: like a chic shirt, or a pretty and comfortable dress. But while it’s easy to find a sewing class, one doesn’t find shoemaking classes so easily.

Luckily, those of us in Austin don’t have to look far. The Art of Shoes, a local online retail store and shoemaking workshop, allows anyone to come into a class to create their very own shoes or sandals. Sign me up!
