Right now it feels like every day’s the same. As we’ve settled into COVID confinement, it can feel like the world’s slowed to a crawl. Luckily, our local music scene continues to grow and create, despite a lack of live performances. If you’re feeling the grind, try checking out one of these awesome acts doing their best to provide some musical light in these dark times. Listen local, y’all!

A Home Unfamiliar presented by Mobley
Streaming on Alamo On-Demand starting Friday. Click here to pre-order and click here for the trailer.
While not a live show in the strictest sense, this fascinating experiment is worth talking about. The concept? What if you took thirty musicians and filmmakers, gave them two days to create a piece of visual art and combine them into a single work? Oh, and nobody knows what the others are doing except for a tiny scrap of footage. A wild and magical tapestry of ideas, sounds, and creativity.
Organized by R&B/pop star Mobley over thirty days, “A Home Unfamiliar” promises to be a wonderland of sights and sounds. The wealth of local talent participating is staggering. The musician list reads like a Black Fret nominee slate. Shakey Graves, Jim Eno, Sabrina Ellis, Walker Lukens, Graham Reynolds, and an army of top flight artists all contributed to this unique and special event. Sure to be a spectacular sensory experience.

Jenny Reynolds Rap Sessions
Streaming Live from Facebook @ 5 p.m.
By blending traditional Americana with Latin, folk, and smokey Southern blues, Jenny Reynolds has songwriting chops for days. Her latest record, “Any Kind of Angel”, is a ten song collection of beautifully penned short stories put to music. The urgent Spanish guitar of album opener, “There is a Road”, tells a mysterious tale of lovers on the run. The aching “The Way We Say Goodbye” uses spare acoustic guitar to paint a haunting picture of love lost. If you need a preview of Jenny’s formidable chops and talent, she streams weekly on her Facebook page. Another one of my wonderful finds that reminds me how rich and deep our amazing music scene is.
