Howdy, Austin! As we continue to hunker down in our homes, we need music to brighten our day. Luckily, many of our local musical heroes are performing live via online streaming. This weekend, we recommend a beloved world music four-piece, an unexpected reunion, and a weekly dose of soulful songs from a true talent. Stay safe and listen local!

Ley Line
Streaming @ 8 p.m. via Facebook Live
I’ve said many a complimentary word about this dynamite multilingual four-piece, so getting an opportunity to see them virtually makes me giddy. Knowing this is a single release adds further excitement to what should be a powerful performance.
Powered by lazy, laid-back ukulele and windswept four-part harmonies, “Slow Down” is a plea for us to decelerate and take a moment to embrace calm. In a situation where we’re all forced to do exactly that, Ley Line recommends we take hold of the positive aspects of these uncertain times. A lovely tune in a time when we desperately need one.

Out Of Our Gourds
Streaming on Facebook Live @ 6:30 p.m. Check the group page for the full schedule once it’s completed.
How’s this for amazing? When the Gourds called it quits in 2013, most assumed they’d make a comeback someday. Evidently, all it took was a national quarantine. Headlined by Austin treasure Kevin Russell, all five members of the band will play remote sessions via a Facebook group live stream.
A laundry list of former members and contributors will be performing as well, including Jon Dee Graham, James McMurty, Kelly Willis, and dozens more. Two decades of music wrapped up in one epic evening? Consider me in attendance!
Sunday, April 26
Anna Larson
Streaming via Facebook Live @ 3 p.m.
Blending old-school soul with new-school Americana, Anna Larson is a treat to see live. Her stripped down sets let her songs drip with longing, emotion, and subtle storytelling. The opening song of her Wednesday set, “Shifting Sand,” was a tear-jerking, cathartic experience.
Each Sunday performance benefits a different Austin charity. This week’s stream is in support of Austin Food Bank, so please give generously if you can.
