Howdy, Austin! With Thanksgiving only a week away and another holiday season looming on the horizon, let’s take this weekend to dive into some rad Austin music. This week, we recommend a dynamic electro-indie duo, stylish soul/funk, and a local legend’s album release shindig. Enjoy the music and always listen local!

Flora & Fawna w/Ladyfang, Pelvis Wrestley, Goons, Dream Data at FullNote Records’ One Year Anniversary Party
@ Cheer Up Charlies (900 River) – 8 p.m. – Facebook event
Two-part harmonies built atop electronic back beats and sparse guitar, Flora & Fawna draw immediate comparisons to The XX in both sound and craftsmanship. The surging and plaintive “Tempted By the Timing” soars on the wings of lead vocalist Lili Hickman Waldon’s touching alto. Conversely, “Slow Burn” thumps like a futuristic dance tune, complete with a pulsing, intoxicating groove. Hooray for new discoveries, double hooray for the amazing ones!
Honey Made w/Ex Romantika, Omarr Awake, Kiyahn
@ Dozen Street (1808 E. 12th) – 9 p.m. – Facebook event
Long-time readers know I love me some afro-funk and I super love me some soul. A careful melange of the two disciplines, Honey Made crafts smooth jams peppered with the sounds of a dozen genres and styles. “Can You Feel It” slaps with a jump-up-jam samba line, while “Perfect Getaway” allows a sultry sax lead to explode into a bedroom anthem of epic proportions. Good times abound with this hypertalented nine-piece.

Shelley King album release
@ One-2-One Bar (1509 S. Lamar) – 8 p.m. – Tickets
A legendary powerhouse of Texas Americana and Austin blues, Shelley King’s resume is riddled with classic song after classic song. Her new record “Kick Up Your Heels” continues her musical journey with force and soul. “Stormin’ In the South” slinks and crawls on a bed of southern rock, while “One Shot at a Time’s” hyperactive boogie sells the dream of going drink to drink with the fabulous Ms. King.
And since it’s getting close to the season, don’t sleep on her wonderful “Christmas in Austin.” If you claim to dig old school Austin, then watching Shelley King ply her trade with skill and grace is a bucket list experience.
