The last weekend of the month is going to be a scorcher in more ways than one. This weekend, we recommend brand new indie pop and a one-two shot of rock-and-roll power. Enjoy the weekend, the weather, and three days of top notch local music. Yes, friends. Listen local!
Friday, Aug. 30
Foxtales single release show w/ Abram Shook, Dossey
@ Spider House Ballroom outside (2908 Fruth St.) – 7:30 p.m. – Event page
Bouncy, upbeat electro-pop with a knack for heavenly hooks, Foxtales transforms the depths of pain and heartache into a joyous expression of tight beats and head-knocking synth.
His breakout single, “Save Ya,” tells the tale of the push and pull struggle between saving a tumultuous relationship and letting the whole thing crumble to dust. By wrapping the drama in an indie-dance jam, the track soars like a ray of light through a dust storm. If the single is any indication, the future is bright for this burgeoning ATX artist.
Also playing is local dance queen Dossey and indie folk act Abram Shook.
Torino Black album release show w/Bronze Swans
@ Stay Gold (1910 E. Cesar Chavez) – 10 p.m. – Facebook event
In your face garage rock sprinkled with Spanish flair, Torino Black’s blend of guitar crunch, percussive slam, and musical depth is a sound I’m always down for. Lead vocalist and resident badass Sisi Berry leads her crew of four through a satisfying catalog of rock-and-roll goodness. Tunes like the Black Keys-style stomper “Oh” and the Latin guitar-tinged “Hello” showcase the band’s depth and range.
On Friday, the group will be celebrating its upcoming full-length record, “Calle Alta.” The lead single off the record, “Mama,” is an infectious machine gun blast of indie punk guitar scorch and slam dance swagger. Haven’t had this much fun rocking out since discovering my beloved Megafauna. Consider your Friday night booked.
Saturday, Aug. 31
A.Sinclair w/Lola Tried, Fair City Fire, Megafauna
@ Antone’s (305 E. 5th) – 8 p.m. – Tickets
Speaking of the amazing Megafauna, she and a trio of Austin’s finest rock-and-roll bands will descend upon the legendary Antone’s this coming Saturday. Headlined by local rock luminary A.Sinclair and backboned by the street-grunge growl of Lola Tried, the evening promises to be a mix of crash cymbal smash, screaming guitars, and pure rock energy.
And don’t forget about Fair City Fire, an under the radar groove rock band full of chops, soul, and pulse-pounding power. Check out the video for “Shake Your Bones” for an immediate insta-smile.
