The month of May marches on with mass quantities of awesome events and exceptional music. This weekend is no exception! This time around, we recommend lo-fi indie rock, Austin’s favorite street festival, and a Latin/rock band with deep ATX roots celebrating Cinco de Mayo.
Enjoy the weekend, intrepid music lovers, and listen local!

The Infinites record release w/Deep Time, Blank Hellscape, nevil
@ Hotel Vegas (1502 E. 6th St.) – 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. – Facebook event
Low-fi indie pop with bounce and flavor, The Infinites blend slice of life lyrics and earworm rhythm to create a charming, distinctive sound.
Tunes like “Scott McMurray” burst with youthful energy atop garage rock fuzz, while “Miriam Stein” from the upcoming record cruises down the California coast with a delectable surf-rock vibe and airy, easygoing vocals. Fine stuff from a band just waiting to break out.
Also playing are surf pop band Deep Time, industrial noise act Blank Hellscape, and drowsy femme/punk band nevil.
Saturday, May 4
Pecan Street Festival
@ 6th Street between Brazos and I-35 – 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. – Music lineup
Austin’s annual springtime celebration is back in a big way. This year’s two-day Pecan Street Festival features a laundry list of worthy Austin bands and musicians. And the cool thing is, many of these acts are bubbling under the radar. Standout acts include Bourgeois Mystics (Neches Stage, 7:45 p.m.), pre-teen punk rockers Midnight Butterfly (Trinity Stage, 6 p.m.), and summery R&B soulstress Eimaral Sol (Red River Stage, 2:30 p.m.).
Food, fun, and rad music. A perfect Saturday in Austin!
Sunday, May 5
Cinco de Mayo at Moontower w/Vallejo, Mark & Rick Delcastillo, Paul Val
@ Moontower Saloon (10212 Manchaca Road) – 3 p.m. – Facebook event
An intoxicating mashup of classic rock riffs and Latin percussion, Vallejo’s been rocking ATX since the early 2000s. Popular tunes like the groovy “Snake in the Grass” and rad street cruise vibe of “Downtown” showcase the band’s impressive range.
The latest record “Unificados” embraces the group’s Latin roots with an exciting alt-rock sound buoyed by Spanish lyrics and distinctive percussive flair.
An excellent way to spend your Cinco de Mayo.
