Another weekend is on the horizon, music fans! As we continue the slow and steady march towards May, take this time to dig live music before the summer swelter. For this weekend, we recommend rad indie folk, a legendary hippie event, and the queen of Austin rock playing for a good cause. Enjoy the music and listen local!

Beat Root Revival
@ Saxon Pub (1320 South Lamar Blvd.) – 11 p.m. – Tickets
One of my pleasant surprises from SXSW 2019, Beat Root Revival’s subtle set at Craft Pride ended up being a joyful jump start to the evening’s festivities. Blending Americana, folk, and world influences into a tasty milkshake of harmonies and toe-tapping rhythms, this talented two-some impresses on every stage.
With a free Denny Freeman performance at 6 p.m. and a ticketed Nakia show at 9 p.m., feel free to spend your entire Friday at this legendary Austin institution.

Eeyore’s Birthday w/Black and White Years, Warren Moon Band, Tex Offenders, more
@ Pease Park (1100 Kingsbury St.) – 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. – Website
One of the most authentic Austin events still kicking in our fine city, Eeyore’s Birthday is a celebration of art, culture, and music. This year’s festival features a lineup of lesser-known acts poised to provide the soundtrack to the afternoon’s good vibes.
- 11-12 p.m. – Fun Bunch/World Gone Mad
- 12-12:45 p.m. – Nematodes (instrumental surf music)
- 1-1:45 p.m. – Isistren (reggae)
- 2-2:45 p.m. – Nokken and the Grim (folk/horror)
- 3-3:45 p.m. – Tex Offenders (country/punk)
- 4-4:45 p.m. – Warren Moon Band (indie dance/rock)
- 5-5:45 p.m. – Black and White Years (indie art rock)

A Giant Dog w/Go Fever
@ Eberly (615 South Lamar Blvd.) – 6 p.m. – Tickets
If I had to go through nearly two years of weekly articles and cull together a “Top 5 Mentions” list, Sabrina Ellis would hover near the top of the list. Between Sweet Spirit, her various other projects, and A Giant Dog, she’s constantly moving and creating.
If watching the queen of Austin rock live on an upscale rooftop isn’t enough, then you should know this show supports The SIMS Foundation, an outstanding organization dedicated to providing low-to-no-cost mental health services to the Austin music community.
Incredible music for a worthy cause. Also playing: indie surf rockers Go Fever.
