Mother’s Day is this weekend, and what better way to celebrate that wonderful woman than with three days of live, local music. From an eclectic artist celebrating a record release, to a bluegrass festival, there’s a sound for every ear. Enjoy the weekend. And as always, listen local!
Friday, May 12
Suzanna Choffel w/Dan Dyer and Jonathan Terrel
@ 3Ten Austin City Limits Live (310 W. Willie Nelson Blvd.)
Suzanna Choffel is an artist who defies classification. If her previous work is any indication, the record release show for her new album, “Hello, Goodbye,” should be a night of eclectic music. Choffel’s smokey alto is the centerpoint of a sound that ranges from bluesy country, to electronic pop, to upbeat rock and roll. Also performing are singer/songwriters Dan Dyer and Jonathan Terrel.
Saturday, May 13
Farmgrass Fest w/Shinyribs, Whiskey Shivers, Hot Club of Cowtown, the Lost Pines, Sour Bridges, and more.
@ Simmons Family Farms (100 Simmons Family Farm Road, south of Niederwald, Texas)
Local legend Shinyribs leads an all-star cast of Austin’s finest pickers and players during this year’s Farmgrass Fest. Not only will you be enjoying a day of first rate country, roots, and bluegrass, but you’ll be supporting a nonprofit dedicated to supporting Central Texas farmers in times of emergency. Well worth the 45-minute drive southeast of downtown.
Sunday, May 14
Brad Stivers
@ Antone’s Records (2928 Guadalupe St. #101) – 3 p.m.
Unsure what to do with that dead spot between Mother’s Day brunch and dinner? Head over to Antone’s Records to check out some classic Americana and blues. Brad Stivers’ throaty vocals and soulful, tight guitar work harkens back to the glory days of Austin music, when blues reigned supreme. A classic way to spend your Mother’s Day.
