It’s officially summer in Austin! With 95 degree temperatures scorching our fair city, there’s no better way to beat the heat than with some rad live music. This week we bring you old school ATX funk, eclectic folk, and a country gal with pipes for days. Enjoy the weather, the city, and–as always–our local live music.
Friday, June 9
Foot Patrol
@ Sahara Lounge (1413 Webberville Road)
An ATX funk mainstay since the mid 2000’s, Foot Patrol brings their party-hard sound to Sahara Lounge this Friday. An all out blow-out of hip-shaking rhythm, soulful R&B, and P-Funk jams, this multi-instrumental powerhouse is an assault on the senses. Make sure you’re wearing comfortable shoes before hitting the floor.
Saturday, June 10
Matt the Electrician, The Deer
@ 3Ten Austin City Limits Live (310 W. Willie Nelson Blvd.)
Local favorite, Matt the Electrician, brings his quirky, tongue-in-cheek acoustic folk to the 3Ten stage on Saturday. Matt’s style can only be described as childlike whimsy crafted for adults, delivering fun, smiles, and bright humor with every tune.
Also playing is local pysch-folk act, The Deer. An ear-pleasing blend of bluegrass folk and swimming soundscapes, The Deer will be a fine complement to Matt’s sweet, sensational picking.
Sunday, June 11
Whitney Rose
@ Gruene Hall (1281 Gruene Road, New Braunfels, TX) – 5:30-9 p.m.
Southern twang with a sensitive swoon, Whitney Rose is part boot-scootin dance hall, part crooner, and all authentic country. “Three Minute Love Affair” tells the story of song-length love affairs on honky-tonk dance floors, while “The Boots” speaks of staying true to who you are. Fun, vibrant, and steeped in authenticity, Whitney Rose will bring a touch of down-home swag to Gruene Hall during this free show.
The old Hill Country town of Gruene is located about 45 minutes south of Austin, depending on traffic, and it’s totally worth the drive.
