Startup Weekend Austin: 54 Hours That Could Change Your Life

Posted on March 29, 2012 by Eric Highland

Startup_Weekend_AustinStrap yourself in, Austin, for 54 hours that could revolutionize your life, and quite possibly the world.

Very few cities boast the creative power that Austin, Texas does. Creatives from all over the world find their way here, as if there were some sort of mystical Pied Piper leading the way. Once they get here, the networking opportunities available to these folks are endless!

Whether you are a developer, business manager, philanthropist, marketing guru, graphic artist, investor or simply a startup enthusiast, you won’t want to miss the event taking place this weekend in Austin.

What am I talking about and what makes this networking event different from the rest?

I’m talking about Startup Weekend Austin and, simply put, there is nothing quite like it.

This isn’t your traditional networking event. Startup Weekend is 54 hours of some of the most focused work that you’ll ever take part in.

Let me break it down for you…it is pretty intense.

In a nutshell, the participants get together on Day One, listen to pitches, decide what they want to tackle, divide into teams and leave the weekend conference 54 hours later with several developed companies or projects.Startup_Weekend_Austin_2

Here are my top 4 reasons why you should attend:

1. Networking:  Startup Weekend tends to attract the very best and brightest movers and shakers in the city.  This is a great place to build relationships and possibly even walk away with a new job or an investor for your own idea.

2. Partnerships:  Your idea needs a team to support it. By far, this event is one of the best places to meet that perfect member for your team and vision; the room will be full of gifted visionaries from every aspect of the entrepreneurial world.  Kinda like speed dating, only with quality choices. (Austinot Brittany’s editorial note: Low blow, Eric…low blow.)

3. Action:  Statistics show that roughly 80% of participants plan on continuing to work with their team or startup after the weekend is over. Numbers don’t lie, and this statistic alone is worth the price of admission.

4. Alternative:  You have great ideas, but you haven’t done much with them. And you were just going to work around the house all day anyway. Carpe diem, my friend.

Take a few minutes and watch this video.  By the end of it, you’ll be wanting to sign up:

Another great post and yes, I enjoyed the video… I just need that ONE great idea! (though some are percolating in the back of my mind) If you know me, they are all Disc Golf related.
