Juliet Ristorante Rises as Premiere Italian Eatery in Austin

Posted on April 4, 2016 by Talena Ramnath

Juliet Italian Restaurant Austin

Editor’s Note: As of June 2017, Juliet has been reimagined. From the restaurant: it “now embodies a classic Italian American menu, featuring more red-sauce Italian dishes and family-style servings.”

Juliet Ristorante, a relatively new addition to the South Austin cohort of eateries, boasts a modern take on classic Italian fare.

Arriving at the restaurant, which sits adjacent to Thom’s Market on Barton Springs, I was struck by the simple elegance of the building’s exterior design, orchestrated by local architects and design firms. Its stark white and deep blue awnings, vintage script and flora surroundings combine high-end and casual.

Owners Neeca Leitao and Dan Wilkin opened the establishment in July 2015, and it has been enticing patrons ever since, with refreshing cocktails, sumptuous entrees and rich pastries that make you forget you reside in Texas. [Read more…]

Milonga Room Speakeasy Reflects 1920s Era and Argentine Roots

Milonga Room Speakeasy in Austin

Restored restaurant booths, ceiling tiles and tables fabricate an eclectic but chic look at Milonga Room

Buenos Aires Café has served as an Austin staple for the past ten years, serving traditional Argentine cuisine of savory house pastas, flaky empanadas, tender asado, refreshing cocktails and more at its two locations on East 6th and in Bee Cave at the Galleria.

The cafe’s East 6th establishment, Café Este, recently renovated its menu options, incorporating more dishes that not only accentuate Buenos Aires’ specific cuisine, but also that of neighboring Argentine cities. Fresh, whole ingredients from a variety of local vendors that are prepared in-house make for a delicious meal among friends and family.

However, patrons looking for a less family-friendly atmosphere now have the opportunity to experience the restaurant’s newest space, a speakeasy called Milonga Room that boasts transportation to a past era. [Read more…]

Update: More than $8.5 million dollars were raised for Amplify Austin in only 24 hours. This is an amazing accomplishment. Thank you to everyone who participated!

The countdown to 6 p.m. on March 8 is nearing its close. Amplify Austin, Austin’s annual 24 hours of online giving, launches tomorrow. Six hundred nonprofits will come together on one website, where community members can donate to these local organizations.

From 6 p.m. on March 8 to 6 p.m. on March 9, donors can make a difference in the lives of their fellow Central Texans. In 2015, I Live Here, I Give Here, the nonprofit that launched this goliath of a fundraising event, raised $7.7 million for 500 nonprofits in the region. Amplify Austin has raised $16.2 million in total since its establishment in 2013, acquired from businesses and individual donors devoting their money to the good of the Austin community. Austin Bouldering Project Offers Community-Oriented Indoor Fitness

Posted on February 25, 2016 by Talena Ramnath

Austin Bouldering Project

Austin Bouldering Project’s main room hosts dozens of problems that change weekly

Community is a gathering of people uniting around a shared passion, within their own space. Zach Olschwanger, founder and head manager of Austin Bouldering Project, operates with the idea of community at the forefront of his gym’s growth strategy. “People have been so willing and anxious to help out in any way. Our approach is to do the best that we can to make it the best it can be, so that other people can enjoy it and tell other people about it. This is kind of the dream; it’s the culture of [bouldering],” he said.

Austin Bouldering Project, a 50,000 square-foot bouldering facility, opened its doors on Nov. 28, 2015, as hordes of Austin rock climbers rushed to finish their Thanksgiving feast to head to the new prime spot for indoor bouldering in the United States. After years of planning, city ordinance mishaps, and miserable rain due to El Niño that continually halted production, the gym was finally able to welcome the anxious public who had been continually checking updates for over a year, so they could get their hands chalked up.
