Local Massage Company Austin Deep Verging on Rapid Expansion

Austin Deep is nestled on Lake Austin Boulevard next to Magnolia Cafe, across from Juiceland. This has been the local company’s sole location since opening in 2002, but that’s about to change.

More Austinites than ever before (and visitors, too) are seeking Austin Deep’s particular brand of massage. Find out why you should be paying attention.

Austin Deep Massage Method

The massage at Austin Deep consists of a highly specified sequence longtime customers grow familiar with, and new customers wonder about. “What just happened to me and why do I feel so relaxed right now?” To learn the technique, therapists complete an intensive training during the onboarding process.

The technique is more than just a signature. It’s a trademarked product that has grown wildly popular over the years and continues to increase in demand.

According to Austin Deep’s website, deep tissue therapy is recommended for athletes and fitness enthusiasts, office workers and commuters, physical laborers, and those experiencing pain from a past injury. In other words, almost everyone.

Jessica’s Story

Jessica Price, founder and owner of Austin Deep, developed her massage method after years of study. As a teenager, she moved to Austin from her hometown in South Texas to study at The University of Texas. When university studies didn’t pan out, she became a licensed massage therapist at A New Beginning School of Massage. She started her practice at age 19.

She was young and hungry. She wanted to learn all she could and help as many people as possible. She worked for years as an employee, developing her technique while remaining safe, content, and booked all the time. But a spark of curiosity and faith led her to start her own business. She had no idea how humongous it would become.

At age 35 she decided to “retire her hands,” as they say in the business, and take on a role as a mentor. This move put Austin Deep over the edge, into a period of exponential growth. In 2018, the company reached $1.325 million in total revenue.

“For someone like me,” Price told me, “A Latina from South Texas who didn’t graduate college, this is a huge success.”

Cutting Edge Technology

A solid method and talented therapists are not the only factors that give Austin Deep its edge.

The studio is equipped with hydraulic lift tables in every room, ensuring optimal pressure can be delivered throughout the massage. Rooms are also equipped with a state-of-the-art sound system, and customers can choose music suiting their preference.

And–here’s the kicker–beside every massage table, an iPad is installed in the wall, with an app called Essential Anatomy 5. With the app, you can view a 3D model of a human body and layer, peel back, or isolate the structures and systems that comprise the body.

The app is an educational tool that helps therapists explain to clients what might be going on within their muscular system, and systems beyond that. Having a visual representation and deeper understanding of how bodily structures relate often aids clients, allowing them to receive the work more effectively.

Coming Soon: Second Location on Congress Avenue

“I’m coming downtown and I want to shake things up,” Price told me.

Of course, Austin Deep will remain true to its clients at the original Lake Austin location. But Price’s intention for a studio on Congress Avenue is to experiment with newer technologies and create a contemporary urban space, while delivering Austin Deep’s tried-and-true standard massage.

The opening date has yet to be announced. But we do know it will happen before summer 2019, as the team completes the finishing touches.

The location on Congress isn’t the only one in the works. Price has plans to take Austin Deep nationwide. But that’s a story for another day.
