Coming from someone who has been gluten-free for 16 years due to a celiac disease diagnosis, Wildwood Bakehouse is heaven-sent. In business for over 15 years, everything at Wildwood Bakehouse is 100 percent gluten-free. They have vegan and carb-free options available, as well. The restaurant and bakery also maintains an association with the Celiac Disease Foundation.
Gluten-free Experience in Austin
On the day I visited, I teared up while looking at the menu. It had been a while since I’d been to Wildwood Bakehouse, and I had forgotten they serve gluten-free onion rings. As I was getting ready to order, it occurred to me that it had been 16 years since I had eaten onion rings, which I used to love!
Along with the onion rings, I ordered the BBQ pulled pork sandwich, which comes on a housemade gluten-free bun. The onion rings were lightly coated, yet crunchy. The BBQ sauce was sweet, but not too sweet. The bun actually stayed together while I ate the pulled pork sandwich.
My friend had decided to join me. While she is not gluten-free, she also enjoys Wildwood Bakehouse. She ordered the Brussels sprouts, and encouraged me to try them when they arrived at our table. I declined, as I’m not a fan. But she convinced me to reconsider, and I have to report…they were absolutely amazing! The best Brussels sprouts I’ve ever had, and I plan to order them for myself next time.
Our server was funny, friendly and knowledgeable. He was also attentive, a feat considering how busy the restaurant was.

This folk art can be seen inside the restaurant and is for sale on the business website. By combining her two businesses, Griffith helps Meso-American artists make a living, while preserving their beautiful artwork.
Gluten-free Travel and Upcoming Move
In true entrepreneurial fashion, Griffith has also expanded Wildwood Bakehouse into the area of travel adventure. Griffith sponsors small group gluten-free trips to Meso-America.
As of mid-July, rumor has it that Wildwood Bakehouse will be relocating to the Silo’s old rooftop restaurant location on 7th Street.
