March has arrived, and with it the looming threat of SXSW. In a few days, tens of thousands of music-loving tourists will be flooding our streets. If you’re the sort that avoids SX like the plague, this weekend may be your last chance to dig some laid-back live music before the tornado hits town. Enjoy the weekend!

Shinyribs with Jimbo Mathus – EP Release
@ Antone’s (305 E. 5th St.)
If you don’t know Kevin Russell, then you don’t know Austin music. Starting his ATX career as the frontman to The Gourds, Russell has been making vibrant, hilarious country/soul for over two decades. Expect a booty-shaking, spirit-lifting performance as he celebrates the release of his fourth Shinyribs album, “I Got Your Medicine.” Rock-a-blues stalwart and ex-Squirrel Nut Zippers frontman, Jimbo Maths, is also on the bill.
Saturday, March 4
Shane Smith & the Saints with Ty Dillon
@ Cheatham Street Warehouse (119 Cheatham St.)
Make the short drive to San Marcos this weekend because this is the show to see. One of my favorite performers from last year’s ACL Festival, Shane Smith & the Saints deliver soaring sing-along bluegrass with a rock-a-roll edge. Dancing shoes are required attire for this blistering five-piece. Country singer/songwriter Ty Dillon opens at 8 p.m.
Sunday, March 5
Christina Cavazos – EP Release
@ Lemon Lounge (500 San Marcos St.)
This 17-year-old phenom celebrates the release of her second (yes, second!) EP, “Cold,” this Sunday at Lemon Lounge. Layering dreamy instrumentation underneath smooth, tender vocals, Christina Cavazos’ sound shows a maturity far exceeding her age. Expect an evening of beauty and grace as you wind down your weekend.
