In a digital world, it’s a fun feeling to get anything delivered by mail. It’s especially fun when music is involved. Vinylmnky, a local Austin vinyl delivery service, has joined the movement to make listening to music a more tangible experience. And there are many reasons why people enjoy collecting vinyl records, from the album art to the feel of the grooves. It’s delightful to learn how to “drop the needle.”
After trying the service myself, this is what I’ve found.
It’s a Surprise, Every Time
The packaging is quality, clean and secure. You don’t have to worry about your record getting damaged on its journey to your front door. The excitement continues through the unwrapping process. What will you find? Will this be a record for lazy days on the couch or a dance party? The Vinylmnky team does a stand-up job picking the Breakthrough Record of the Month.
The Owners are Cool Dudes
The owners of Vinylmnky, Travis and Nick Jourdan, are cousins, roommates, best friends and business partners. They hand-pick the albums that get sent out to their “Tribe” members. The duo started this company because of their shared passion for introducing people to new music and their love for the vinyl format. They’re not alone, especially in Austin, Texas!
These guys are well-connected to the music community, with ties to Crosley Radio, Audioengine Speakers and Groove Vinyl.
Vinylmnky Is for New Music Lovers
If you’re into collecting vinyl, this could be the subscription service for you. Artists that have been featured include Aurora, CHVRCHES, Chet Faker, St. Lucia, Tame Impala, Beach House and Robert DeLong. On New Music Fridays, Vinylmnky posts artist interviews and other tidbits about new and upcoming bands. It’s nice to see a company do their part to expose super talented, but not-so-well-known musicians.
You’ll Get the Exclusive
The Vinylmnky team took the time to write me a personal note. My package also included exclusive items like lyric sheets, artist add-ons and album art. Some of the records are even signed by the band! It makes the whole listening experience more personal. Note: BROTM stands for Breakthrough Record of the Month.
- Monthly membership: $29.99
- Six-month membership: $27.99/month
- Twelve-month membership: $24.99/month
I definitely believe it’s worth trying out! Do a little jig in your living room by yourself or bust your records out at a party. It’s a joyous experience, either way.
