Top Restaurants for Thanksgiving Feasts & Eats in Austin
Matt’s El Rancho
Start with the Bob Armstrong Dip at Matt’s El Rancho, the Austin-born classic that dates back to the 1970s. The story goes that Bob Armstrong, then Texas Land Commissioner, asked the kitchen to whip up something off-menu. They came back with queso, taco meat, and guacamole, and the combination stuck.
Order a bowl for the table, grab your chips, and save room for the enchiladas at this family-run Mexican restaurant that’s been feeding Austin for around 70 years.
Planning to sit outside? The patio is currently under construction as the restaurant adds a covered area, with work expected to finish in spring 2027. The indoor dining rooms remain open, and you can join the online waitlist before heading over.
When: Wednesday – Thursday: 11 am – 10 pm | Friday – Saturday: 11 am – 11 pm | Sunday – Monday: 11 am – 9 pm
Where: Matt’s El Rancho, 2613 S Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78704

Jacoby’s Restaurant & Mercantile
The beef at Jacoby’s Restaurant & Mercantile comes straight from the Jacoby family’s own West Texas ranch, and that ranch-to-table connection gives the menu a personal touch.
Settle in for comfort-food favorites such as chicken fried steak, pimento cheese, biscuits, and smoked dishes, then enjoy your meal with views of the Colorado River on Austin’s east side.
The covered, heated patio is especially inviting on a chilly November evening, so you can linger outside without shivering through dinner.
Before you leave, browse the mercantile near the entrance for Texas artisan goods and local products that could make thoughtful holiday gifts. Thanksgiving Day hours for 2026 haven’t been publicly announced, so call ahead before making the drive on Thursday.
When: Wednesday – Thursday: 5 am – 9 pm | Friday: 5 am – 10 pm | Saturday: 10 am – 10 pm | Sunday: 10 am – 2 pm

Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill
Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill has served an all-you-can-eat Thanksgiving buffet in past years, with turkey, stuffing, and holiday sides joining its lineup of Southern comfort food. The buffet has traditionally operated on a first-come, first-served basis without reservations, making it a convenient option for a holiday meal out.
Even outside the holiday, there’s plenty to settle in for. The restaurant occupies a 19th-century stone mercantile along the Waterloo Greenway, with a covered patio for lingering over a meal when the November weather cools down.
Order the green chile mac and cheese, Southern biscuits, deviled eggs, or warm skillet cornbread, and you can see why the regular menu has its own following. Moonshine also serves a Saturday and Sunday brunch buffet featuring roughly 30 handmade dishes, giving you another reason to stop by over Thanksgiving weekend.
