Halloween in Austin goes well beyond a costume party and a bucket of candy. This October, you can walk through a haunted waterpark, explore a 15-acre haunted attraction in Buda, catch Scream with David Arquette, spend two nights at an EDM festival, or take the kids trick-or-treating at Q2 Stadium.
There are also free museum events, Halloween concerts, haunted hayrides, drag shows, and plenty of excuses to put some serious thought into your costume.

Family-Friendly Halloween Events in Austin 2026
Pumpkin Nights at Pioneer Farms
Walk a half-mile trail through more than 10,000 hand-carved and custom-designed pumpkins at Pumpkin Nights, one of the most visually ambitious Halloween events in Austin this year, where nine fully realized worlds take you from Neon Reef to the Forbidden City.
Live artists carve new pumpkins every single night of the season, so the display keeps growing as October goes on.
Visit in late October, and you’ll actually see a bigger spectacle than the one that opened in September.
Once you clear the trail, head into Pumpkin Village for a live fire show, food and drinks, family games, and vendors.
Timed tickets are required and sell in advance only, with no walk-up sales. Take note: weekday pricing runs lower than weekends.

Boo at the Zoo
On Friday and Saturday nights in October, Austin Zoo’s animal habitats take on a Halloween glow after dark, giving you a chance to see rescued animals while wandering through their decorated homes.
The night also includes the Haunted Train, a 10-minute ride through the zoo grounds with Halloween lighting and actors waiting in the dark outside the train, plus the Haunted House inside the converted Peacock Barn.
Bringing younger kids? Before you enter th
e Haunted House, staff will check with your group about how scary you want it to be, then cue the actors accordingly. That means a seven-year-old and a twelve-year-old don’t necessarily have to get the same scare level.
Your ticket covers the Haunted Train ride and unlimited Haunted House visits, along with access to the animal habitats and a nightly animal show.

Kalahari Spooktacular

Kalahari Resorts brings 14 trick-or-treat stations, bounce houses, DJ dance parties, and live music to its outdoor grounds on October 24 from 5 to 9 PM, and it won’t cost you a thing to enjoy them.
Every kid who comes through gets a Kalahari Collectible Badge as a keepsake, too, giving them something to take home after the candy starts disappearing.
You can add paid extras if you want to stretch the outing even further.
The Not-So-Spooky Glow Barn and Hay Maze cost $10 per person, and there’s also a Halloween Build-A-Bear pop-up, face painting, and full food stations serving brisket sandwiches, funnel cakes, street corn, and more.

SAFE Alliance Truck or Treat at Q2 Stadium
Q2 Stadium, home of Austin FC, turns into one of the most popular trunk-or-treat Austin events on October 24, where kids climb on, sit in, and explore real ambulances, fire trucks, backhoes, bulldozers, and buses while collecting candy in costume.
Nearly 6,000 kids and parents showed up last year, and this Trunk or Treat Austin event has a pretty convincing lineup of vehicles for little truck and construction enthusiasts.
All proceeds go to SAFE Alliance, which serves survivors of child abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence in Austin.
One note: the trucks are loud, so bring hearing protection if your kid is sensitive to noise. Closed-toe shoes are also required to protect the little ones’ feet as they climb and run around the grounds.

Haunted Shores at Volente Beach
Volente Beach Resort on Lake Travis trades its usual waterpark setup for an abandoned-waterpark backdrop every October, with empty slides, drained pools, and idle structures setting the scene for Haunted Shores.
This family Halloween ATX experience features light scares, hand-built scenery, and creepy characters rather than actors jumping out of pitch-black rooms.
On Friday and Saturday nights, you can add a boat ride around Starnes Island, departing at 7:30, 8:30, and 9:30 PM. Each departure is capped at 50 people, so that one books up fast.
Beachside Billy’s restaurant also opens at 5 PM for ticket holders, so you can stick around after your walk-through for themed cocktails, snacks, and music.
Tickets are timed, non-refundable, and individual time slots, especially the boat ride, book up fast, so reserve your date and time in advance.

Halloween Children’s Concert

Bring the kids to the Long Center for one of the most affordable kid Halloween events in Austin this October, an afternoon with the Austin Symphony Orchestra, the oldest performing arts organization in the city.
Every October, the orchestra dedicates one afternoon to a fully costumed, Halloween-themed orchestral program designed for kids ages 4 to 11.
The 2026 edition features Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, a piece written to introduce children to the instruments of the orchestra, with each character represented by a different section.
Come an hour before showtime for musical crafts, games, and the Instrument Petting Zoo on the H-E-B Terrace and in the Long Center lobby, where kids can actually touch and try the instruments.
The concert runs for about an hour, followed by the Spooktacular Costume Contest, with prizes awarded onstage.

Spooktacular at Bullock Museum
The Bullock Texas State History Museum opens its doors after hours on October 23 from 5 to 8 PM for Spooktacular, one of the best free Halloween events in Austin, with a full evening of hands-on STEM activities presented with Girlstart, an Austin nonprofit focused on getting girls engaged in science, technology, engineering, and math.
Kids can build a candy corn cannon, explore boo bubbles, learn about Austin’s bat population, and enjoy the museum in their Halloween costumes. The museum specifically invites everyone to come dressed up.
Girlstart’s booth has historically been the centerpiece, but the evening also includes an after-hours scavenger hunt through the museum’s exhibits and Día de los Muertos crafts.

Trick-or-Treating & Community Festivals in Austin
Trick or Treat on the Trail
Trade the usual parking-lot Halloween setup for a car-free trail through the Boggy Creek Greenbelt in East Austin.
The Ghisallo Cycling Initiative has been running Trick or Treat on the Trail since its first year, lighting the route with homemade luminaries and setting up 20+ trick-or-treat stations run by community partners.
More than 10,000 pieces of candy are handed out along the way. All you need to bring is yourself, the kids, and your best costumes.
Apart from the candy trail, there will also be a blacklight Monster Mash dance party and a “Strut Your Stuff” photo booth. You’ll also find health and safety resource booths from local community partners along the route.
You can park at the Conley-Guerrero Senior Center, Nile St., or Rosewood Park, but organizers encourage you to walk, bike, or take the bus instead. It is a greenbelt event on Halloween night, after all.

AISD Trunk or Treat at Nelson Athletic Complex

Kids can trick-or-treat straight from decorated police vehicle trunks at AISD Trunk or Treat, then climb aboard first-responder vehicles and meet the Austin ISD officers who work in their schools.
Now in its seventh year, the event was started by the Austin ISD Police Department to give northeast Austin families a safe Halloween option where kids could actually interact with the officers they know from school.
More than 2,000 children and families attend each year, and the 2026 edition is expected to be the biggest yet, with new activities and more participating community organizations than in previous years.
You won’t need to bring your wallet, either. Candy, food, drinks, a DJ, live music, and giveaways from community partners are all free.

Adult & Nightlife Halloween Events in ATX
Fear Fair at Sign Bar
Sign Bar’s Halloween setup starts with the bar itself: the East Austin venue is built around a collection of rescued signs from shuttered Austin businesses, preserving pieces of a city that keeps tearing itself down.
Every fall, that collection gets a haunted addition, and the 2026 Fear Fair brings a brand-new haunted clown maze rebuilt from scratch with upgraded sets and more live scare actors than the 2025 version.
Three actors work weeknights, six work Fridays and Saturdays, and all six are in the maze every night from October 26 through 31. The maze runs September 16 through November 1, so you have the whole season to pick your night.
Want the creepy sets without someone jumping out at you? The daytime matinee lets you explore the maze actor-free, which is ideal for checking out the build and grabbing your photo ops without an actor waiting around the corner.
The bar is 21+ after 7 PM, making the evening version an adults-only night out.

Unique & Immersive Halloween Experiences in Austin
Bat City Scare Grounds
If you’ve been through the standard Austin Halloween haunted house circuit and want something with more scale, head to Buda for Bat City Scare Grounds, 15 acres built by the team behind Nightmare on 19th Street in Lubbock, where they spent 15 years perfecting their haunt before bringing the operation south.
Bat City Scare Grounds is an outdoor Halloween environment, with roughly 95% of the experience taking place outside as you move between three distinct haunted houses.
In between them, you’ll find live music, Vegas-style stage performances, fire performers, circus sideshows, and aerial acrobatics, so there’s plenty happening even when you’re between scares.
The three attractions for 2026 are Ritual, brand new this season, Castle Orlock, and Slaughter Mall 3D.
Castle Orlock starts out as a traditional haunted castle before suddenly shifting into the metallic interior of Count Orlock’s spaceship. The space vampire has descended to herald the end of Earth, and the sci-fi special effects and set design completely change the atmosphere halfway through the attraction.
Slaughter Mall 3D, meanwhile, sends you through neon-lit clowns and blacklight while wearing 3D glasses. One ticket gets you into all three houses.
The attraction is recommended for ages 12 and up; there’s no alcohol on site, and parking is free in the gravel lot.

Scream Hollow Wicked Halloween Park

Make the 45-minute drive southeast of Austin to Smithville and you’ll find one of the most decorated haunted attractions near Austin: Scream Hollow, spread across more than 20 acres of wooded land with five distinct haunted attractions included on a single ticket.
Lionsgate Films named it the number one scariest haunted house in the nation, and the attractions certainly aren’t shy about making the claim.
The Mansion of Terror Coven follows an 1842 orphanage narrative where, according to Scream Hollow, “the mansion has a heartbeat.” Nursery rhymes drift from the old nursery while screams rise from the basement as you make your way through.
The Sinister Circus takes you into an outdoor clown haunt in the actual woods, while Alien Encounter puts you inside the crashed wreckage of the USS Astral Horizon spacecraft.
Then there’s the attraction you won’t find in other Halloween events in Austin: a genuine haunted hayride, billed as the only one in the state.
Between haunts, you can explore the midway’s beer garden, café, live music, and bonfires, or check out the Halloween History Museum and Haunted Artifacts Museum. Each haunted house runs 10 to 12 minutes, so doing all five plus the hayride can easily fill an entire evening.

Panic at the Paramount
Panic at the Paramount is in its fifth year, and the 2026 edition has expanded beyond its usual home to three venues at once.
With the Paramount itself undergoing renovations, screenings and events will move over to the State Theatre on Congress, the Bullock Museum IMAX, and Bass Concert Hall at UT for a special event.
The IMAX lineup alone gives horror fans plenty to circle on the calendar, with It, Nope, The Witch, Hereditary, and Sinners all scheduled.
Robert Rodriguez will be hosting his annual double feature with a mystery second film that isn’t revealed until the night of the screening.
On October 28, David Arquette will appear at Bass Concert Hall for a conversation before a screening of Scream.
Opening weekend pairs Friday the 13th with A Bay of Blood, and Carrie with Jennifer’s Body, while October 15 brings Master Pancake’s live comedic riff on The Lost Boys.

Freaky Deaky 2026: The Revival

Spend October 30 and 31 at the Travis County Exposition Center for Freaky Deaky, the Halloween EDM festival that launched in Houston in 2018 and has grown into the largest Halloween EDM festival in Texas.
The 2026 theme, “The Revival,” turns the roughly 20,000-capacity festival grounds into a dystopian laboratory where a living experiment has gone wrong.
Three stages, The Reactor, The Circuit, and The Lab, carry that concept through their designs, while the lineup brings ILLENIUM, Disco Lines, SLANDER, Boogie T, Liquid Stranger, SIDEPIECE, and WHETHAN to the festival.
Late-night sets from Interplanetary Criminal, DJ Heartstring, Flava D, and Hannah Laing take things further into bass, house, techno, and UK garage.
The production extends well beyond the stages, with large-scale art installations, roaming performers, and a festival environment designed so the “Revival” theme runs through the visual experience across the grounds.

Know Before You Go: Navigating Austin Halloween Events
A lot of Austin’s Halloween events are concentrated downtown, in East Austin, and around South Congress, but some of the bigger haunted attractions are outside the city.
If you’re heading to places like Buda, Bee Cave, Paige, or Smithville, expect roughly a 20- to 45-minute drive from central Austin, depending on traffic and your route via I-35 or Highway 290.
For the bigger nighttime attractions, don’t leave tickets until the last minute.
Popular events like Pumpkin Nights at Pioneer Farms and Bat City Scare Grounds use timed or limited-entry tickets, and weekend spots can fill up quickly. Check the event’s schedule before you go and book ahead when advance tickets are available.
