Last night, I was having this dream that I was walking the streets of downtown Seattle and a zombie outbreak had occurred.
I was running for my life through the streets of downtown… early in the morning past the newspaper guys, baristas, and hookers and finally.. I was trapped in this alleyway near the courthouse.
With one bite, and a really nasty flesh wound, my life was over.. I was zombiefied.
Actually, there were a whole bunch of us that turned into zombies.. but we could talk of course. The scariest part, was not that I had turned into one, nor that we could talk. The scariest part is that I suggested to my fellow undead that we take a trip…. and so we all headed to Austin Texas. Talk about keeping Austin weird.
Wow. Who would have believed that those would be the very first words ever written in the Austinot blog…I’ve had Austin, Texas on my mind a lot lately.
Have you ever had a zombie dream?
Must be all the zombie flicks I watch, or maybe it was the beef stroganoff my wife made for dinner yesterday….. either way, last night I was tossing and turning all night.
At 2:50AM I woke up, checked my iPhone (like most normal people do before they even get out of bed) for my latest Facebook updates, rolled out of bed and fired up my Mac….time to blog.
Why has Austin, TX been on my mind so much lately?
Maybe it is that it is freaking 35 degrees in my little Seattle apartment and I have my space heater cranked to get me acclimatized (yes I just made that word up) for my trip to Austin and I couldn’t sleep.
Maybe it is that I’ll be in the Governors Conference Room in Austin in 2 days sitting in front of a board from the Texas DPS for a job interview.
Whatever it is, we are moving to Austin, and I can’t stop thinking about it. Somehow I knew I would end up living in Austin. I just didn’t know that it was going to be this soon.
I really don’t know what to think about Austin yet. So help me out..
Other than common knowledge stuff, like it is the capitol of the great State of Texas, historical facts you can read about on wikipedia, and that it is home of the Longhorns.. here is an exhaustive list of what I know about Austin as of this writing:
- How much my UT Longhorns Alum wife Brittany loves the city… “hook’em baby”
- That according to Brit, there is a place called Milto’s that makes the best fettucini alfredo on the planet outside of Italy
- 6th street is pretty crazy and it has a dirty, east and west section.
- Mopac is also known as 1
- Swante Palm has a small historical plate somewhere near the rotunda
- Music and film are a big deal.. and there is some little get together called south by southwest
I’ll be in Austin this Wednesday and Thursday (November 16-17) for my interview…. but either way.. at the beginning of December 2011 I’ll be the newest resident.. hopefully not as pictured here.

the Austinot asks:
If a friend of yours was coming to Austin for only one day, where would you suggest they go?
Whitney says
I have zombie dreams every Sunday night after we watch the Walking Dead. Scary! Anyways, sounds like you are settling in good. The Parish is an awesome venue to catch a live show, some of my best musical experiences there…especially by being in the right place at the right time during SXSW.

So looking forward to it Whitney! I’m a Walking Dead fan myself. Settling in good.. and meeting lots of great people. I look forward to meeting you as well.
All the best, E
