You scream, I scream, we all scream for…gelato! This popular saying typically ends with “ice cream,” but after you try the award-winning gelato at Tèo Expresso Gelato & Bella Vita, I’m pretty sure you’ll consider the permanent switch like I have.
For the past few months, I’ve been secretly working with Tèo owner, Mathew Lee, in his kitchen to create my own one-of-a-kind flavor for the Tèo Flavor Creation Contest. Strawberry Nutella Toast is the result of my work, and I’m proud to say it’s every bit as good as it looks and sounds.

Tèo Gelato Flavor Creation Contest
Tèo’s contest is taking place through May 14, 2018. The flavor winner will be declared based on pan-sales, that is, the number of each participant’s gelato pans sold in-store.
In addition, each contest participant has partnered with a charity of her choice. Each nonprofit is guaranteed a minimum donation of $100, regardless of the contestant winner.
The Grand Prize Winner will have 10 percent of pan-sales donated to her partnered charity, and the opportunity to have her customized flavor pitched to H-E-B and carried alongside other TEO flavors currently carried at local H-E-B stores.
Head over to this Austin gelato shop at 1206 W. 38th St. and cast your vote by indulging in some of my Strawberry Nutella Toast gelato. Don’t forget to use the official hashtag #TeoGives when you share on social media.
My Flavor: Strawberry Nutella Toast
I call my official flavor Strawberry Nutella Toast. It has a sweet and fruity base, made from a mouthwatering combination of fresh strawberries and strawberry jam. It also includes a generous swirl of rich Nutella spread that balances the sweetness of the berries, plus biscotti chunks to add a crunchy toastlike texture! It’s my unique take on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
I was inspired after devouring an open-faced Nutella croissant sandwich at Opa! Coffee & Wine Bar on South Lamar. To be honest, it was such a simple yet incredibly satisfying snack, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I mean, I can’t think of too many things better than putting hazelnutty Nutella on a buttery croissant.
Matthew Lee and I worked tirelessly in his kitchen until the flavor profile of my gelato was reminiscent of my magical Nutella toast experience.
Austin Pets Alive!
As an animal lover and devoted dog mom, Austin Pets Alive! was the clear choice for my partner charity.
For those not familiar, Austin Pets Alive! is a private 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, founded in 2008, with the mission “to promote and provide resources, education, and programs needed to eliminate the killing of companion animals.”
Since the organization began, it has rescued more than 40,000 dogs and cats. It strives to keep Austin a no-kill city by acting as a “safety net” for adoptable pets in the surrounding Central Texas area. Thanks to generous public support and tireless work from volunteers, Austin has remained a no-kill city for seven years and counting.
For more information, including where to donate and how you can volunteer, please visit the Austin Pets Alive! website.
