In mid-2012, our good friend Dusty Vegas wrote a popular Austinot series that was descriptively titled “Austin Coffee Shop Hunt.”
Over time, we’ve featured other delightful coffee spots including Dominican Joe, Kick Butt Coffee, Austin Java and Corona Cafe.
I’ve decided to bring back the coffee talk by reviewing one of my favorite coffee shops in Austin: Mozart’s Coffee Roasters on Lake Austin.
Once upon a time, when life was simpler yet somehow seemed incredibly difficult, I was a college student. A friend introduced me to Mozart’s down on Lake Austin, and I was enchanted.
As a hopeless romantic, what’s not to love about wooden decks overlooking the water, wind blowing through your hair, journal and pen in hand, with a scrumptious beverage a few inches away? At the time, I was single. So as I sat and studied biological systems out of a textbook that weighed as much as me, I imagined bringing my one true love to Mozart’s one day in the future. Which ended up happening.
The Best Way to Enjoy Mozart’s Austin
Despite my sappy gibberish, your enjoyment of Mozart’s isn’t dependent upon your relationship status. Mozart’s is perfect for:
- Studying
- Date night
- Business meetings
- Coffee with friends
- Alone time
It’s ambiance seems to adjust perfectly to whatever your purpose is. Do beware that electric outlets are sporadically placed, and not every table has access to one. This becomes a problem because of how busy Mozart’s can get. If you need a good table with an outlet, I recommend you arrive first thing in the morning or during the lunch hour.
If you don’t need a plug and it’s not pouring outside, you’ll never have a problem finding seating. Most of Mozart’s seating is outdoors, with a smaller covered deck and a large uncovered deck area – including seating right on the lakefront.
Food and Beverage Options
Mozart’s has superb coffee drinks, but that’s only the start of their menu. They have a full case of delicious desserts, and they also sell a selection of Amy’s Ice Cream and Teo Gelato flavors. You’ll see a case of bottled drinks to choose from, including Maine Root products, and they have packaged Mozart’s coffee and loose leaf tea for you to enjoy at home.
As far as our personal favorites go, Eric loves getting dutch apple pie a la mode. I always enjoy whatever drink I get – frappe, latte, hot chocolate – but I really loved the raspberry vanilla latte that I tried on my last visit.
Everything Else You Need to Know
Mozart’s is open almost all the time. Their hours do vary day to day, so try to keep up:
- 7 AM-12 AM, Monday-Thursday
- 7 AM-1 AM, Friday
- 8 AM-1 AM, Saturday
- 8 AM-12 AM, Sunday
Take Lake Austin Blvd. west from Mopac and you’ll find Mozart’s at 3825 Lake Austin Blvd.
And last, but not least, don’t miss the Mozart’s Light Show at Christmastime. It’s a lot of fun and definitely a holiday tradition for many Austinites.
