The Austinot Weekend Concert Picks: Sept. 22-23

Austinot Weekend Concert Picks Sept 22-23

With another week approaching its conclusion, we turn our gaze to the weekend’s horizon. It’s almost here, party people, so start making plans! This week, Austin serves up a ’60s-era girl group, a two-day festival designed to excite the hippie in all of us, and a Hurricane Harvey benefit packed with quality music. Listen local, my friends!

Charlie Faye & the Fayettes

@ Spider House Ballroom (2906 Fruth St.) – Doors 9:30 p.m. – $5-10

A wonderful example of retro done right, Charlie Faye & the Fayettes bring ’60s-era soul to the modern day. With the help of singer BettySoo and pint-sized dynamo Akina Adderly, the girl group delivers a hefty amount of swing and style to a classic sound. If you’ve ever grooved in your car to The Supremes or slow-danced with a loved one to The Ronettes, seeing Charlie Faye & the Fayettes will be a trip back to a time when music was a little bit simpler and a little more fun.

UTOPIAfest

@ Four Sisters Ranch (1555 Lemond Road, Utopia, TX) – Tickets

With the finest collection of Austin talent you’ll see this weekend, possibly all month, UTOPIAfest is a music event experience like none other. Two stages, a limited amount of tickets (2,000), the festival promises to be an intimate and highly social experience. And then there’s the lineup! Beloved acts like Brownout, Wood & Wire, Wild Child, and CAPYAC mix with lesser-known artists like reggae group Cowboy Irie, experimental guitar virtusoso Michael Garfield, and alternative folk rock band Batty Jr. The full lineup can be found at utopiafest.com.

As of this writing, there are still a limited amount of day and weekend passes available.

Strength in Neighbors Hurricane Harvey Benefit w/Alpha Rev, The Wind & The Wave, Suzanna Choffel

@ Parlor & Yard (601 W. 6th St.) – 6-11 p.m. – Tickets

The Austin music community is in full support mode for victims of Hurricane Harvey. It’s inspiring to see. Longtime alternative band Alpha Rev, rootsy indie-folk act The Wind & The Wave, and old school songstress Suzanna Choffel will be performing for this worthy cause. Catch some awesome music and lend a hand to our friends in Houston and the surrounding area by checking out this talent-packed show.
