Howdy to the weekend, fellow frozen Austinites! As many of you deal with delayed openings and icy cars, be comforted by the flood of hot Austin music to look forward to. This weekend, we recommend an incredible music festival, ’90s alternative rock, and an Austin great’s record release.

UTOPiAfest Day Two w/Brownout, The Deer, Donovan Keith, more
@ Reveille Peak Ranch (105 CR 114, Burnet, TX) – All day – Tickets
A yearly extravaganza of friendly atmosphere, beautiful surroundings, and awesome music, UTOPiAfest delivers the excitement and discovery of a large festival with a laid-back, hippie vibe. This year’s lineup is a who’s who of Austin greats.
If I had to pick one day, it would be Friday. Local standouts like soul man Donovan Keith, experimental indie wizards The Deer, and the award-winning Brownout pepper the lineup with ATX flavor. Regardless of the day, UTOPiAfest is a can’t-miss event you need to experience once in your life.
Note: As of this writing, Friday single day tickets are not available. 3-Day GA passes and VIP are.

Saint Lō Gun w/Dayeater, The Boleys
@ Spiderhouse Ballroom (2906 Fruth) – 9 p.m. – Facebook event
Yeah! New music! A beautiful blend of ’90s-era alternative rock fuzz and smooth yet aggressive female-fronted vocals, Saint Lō Gun draws easy comparisons to bands like Garbage and The Cranberries.
“Over You” is an absolute stunner. A driving percussive blast of post-breakup snarl and grunge guitars, the track’s ear candy is too tasty to be ignored. From a metal riff halfway through to the occasional piano, there’s layers upon layers of musical flavor.
And Saint Lō Gun has a new single! While I wasn’t able to get my ear on it before this article, if it’s anything like the latest EP, expect well-crafted indie rock played with aggression and unexpected sensitivity in equal measure.
Jean Caffeine EP Release
@ Barrel O’ Fun (1911 Aldrich Ste. 120-B) – 7 p.m. – Event page
A storied veteran of the Austin music scene, Jean Caffeine continues to churn out a smile-generating blend of punk, folk, pop, and ATX strange.
Her latest single, the title track off her new record “Love. What Is It?” takes a marching band snare drum rhythm and layers it with pop punk chords to create a fun, bouncy vibe. Add to the mix Caffeine’s mellow yet emotional vocals, and you have a track that mixes the bubblegum flutter of new love with all the nervous anticipation that comes with it.
Jean Caffeine is an Austin treasure, so make sure her EP release is marked in pen on your virtual calendar.
