The Austinot Weekend Concert Picks: June 12th-13th 2020 (Virtual Edition)

June 11, 2020 by Bill Tucker Leave a Comment

Another week, another slate of virtual concerts to help us chill, heal, and hopefully grow. As I said last week, music is my shield and salve for the craziness of this world, so hopefully the tireless work of our local musicians are helping you through this insane and trying time. As always, listen, support, and donate if you’re financially able to as you listen local!

Rochelle & the Sidewinders 5 Year Anniversary Show

Streaming via One-2-One Bar site @ 7 p.m. – Tickets

Unwilling to a let a little pandemic ruin their fun, blues giants Rochelle & the Sidewinders will be celebrating their 5 year anniversary this Friday via One-2-One Bar. Rochelle’s stunning vocals lift classic blues standards and originals alike. Listening to her belt an Etta James classic is pure magic. Turn the lights down low and melt into a Skylark Lounge club vibe to the soul stirring sounds of Rochelle & the Sidewinders.

Songwriter Eliza Gilkyson (credit: Eliza Gilkyson Facebook Page, photo by Todd V Wolfson)

Eliza Gilkyson

Streaming via Facebook Live @ 5:30 p.m

When a Grammy award nominated singer/songwriter pops onto her Facebook feed for intimate weekly shows, you should take notice. Known for her rootsy, measured voice and gorgeous Americana arrangements, Gilkyson is a force to be reckoned with. Her brand new record, the aptly named “2020”, shouts a progressive call for change atop a blanket of soulful folk, Southern rock-a-blues, and silky country twang. And if you need a starting point for her catalog, 2004’s “Land of Milk and Honey” is a piece of brilliance. A worthy way to start your Friday night.

The Peterson Brothers

Streaming on Austin City Limits Radio via Facebook @ 7 p.m.

If you’ve never seen The Peterson Brothers live, take the chance to see them slam sick funk and blues from the comfort of your home. The pair have chops for days. Watching Alex and Glenn Jr trade solos is a sight to behold, made more impressive by their young age (20 and 23 respectively). Having the chance to watch these brilliant young men grow as artists is the sort of thing that makes Austin a special place to be a music fan.
