The Austinot Weekend Concert Picks: July 3rd-5th 2020 (Virtual Edition)

July 2, 2020 by Bill Tucker Leave a Comment

As the case counts climb higher and the entire state prepares for quarantine round 2, our local music scene once again retreats to the world of virtu-shows and livestreams. But all’s not lost, as we get to dig great music from the comfort of our homes. Continue to listen, share, and support financially if you can. Listen local – and Happy 4th!

Cruel Summer TX

Streaming via Facebook Live @ 8 p.m.

Snarling, preening garage rock punctuated with smoking guitar leads and gravel worn two part harmonies, Cruel Summer is exactly the sort of DIY music that Friday nights in Austin were made for. Performing as a part of The Lost Well’s Rock for Rent series, the virtu-show promises to be intense, furious, and an insane amount of fun.

Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Livestream w/ Asleep at the Wheel, Peterson Brothers, Shakey Graves and much more.

Streaming live on williepicnic.com starting @ 3:30 p.m.

Willie’s annual July 4th blow out was my first big ATX concert experience. The good vibes, lawn seating, and impressive lineup helped re-ignite a love for live music. Plus I got to see Willie perform with Merle Haggard. Enough said!

But we know Willie. He’s not going to let a little thing like a pandemic keep him down. This year’s picnic is going 100% virtual. With local favorites like Shakey Graves, the Peterson Brothers, and event perennial Asleep at the Wheel representing the ATX, this year’s show will be sensational. Grab some tacos and margs, turn the computer speakers to maximum, and enjoy an awesome soundtrack to your July 4th festivities!

Sunday, July 5th

Miss. Lavelle White performs at Antone’s (credit: Kim Yarbrough)

Miss Lavelle’s 91st Birthday Livestream w/Marcia Ball

Streaming live via Antone’s Facebook page @ 7 p.m.

Nope, that’s not a typo. Austin’s elder stateswoman of blues and soul Miss Lavelle White celebrates her 91st birthday in streaming style. A force to be reckoned with, this legendary vocalist, who’s performed with everyone from B.B. King to The Isley Brothers, continues to wow audiences with her powerful stage presence and world class tone.

In conjunction with Antone’s and the Clifford Antone Foundation, Miss White will perform with the L Men and special guest A tier blues vocalist and pianist Marcia Ball. It should be a lovely evening of wonderful music in celebration of an all time great.

Who are you looking forward to checking out via live stream this weekend?
