The Austinot Weekend Concert Picks: July 10th-12th 2020 (Virtual Edition)

July 9, 2020 by Bill Tucker Leave a Comment

Austinites! With Stage 5 looming, ACL Fest cancelled, and another round of “essential travel only” on the horizon, we’ll all be sequestered for the forseeable future. Plenty of time to work on our video game backlog, do some Netflix binging, and check out local music via rad live streams. Nothing replaces the energy of true live performance, but when you’re in the midst of a year long pandemic, any port in the storm. Stay safe, support our local music (monetarily if finances allow), and listen local!

Kevin Mckinney of SoulHat

Streaming Live on Facebook @ 6:30 p.m.

Long time member of the ATX music community, Kevin Mckinney performs selections from Soulhat’s expansive 30 year career. Bluesy rock with a soulful funk edge, listening to Kevin’s stream is a nostalgic blast to the past, made current by the sheer force of quality that good songs carry. Bonus points for the trippy video filters and top notch guitar picking. A great way to start your Friday evening.

Madam Radar

Streaming Live on Facebook @ 7 p.m.

Need a party hosted by an incredible band? Madam Radar has you covered. Want to know what they did last week? Auction off pies to the face, play mad libs with the chat, and rock their best July 4th apparel. Oh, and play selections from their impressive catalog of blues/rock/Americana tunes along with beautiful covers. Their version of “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright” was pure magic. Playing these gems acoustic lends an intimacy and immediacy that’s a treat to experience in the comfort and safety of your home. Highly recommended!

Matt the Electrician

Streaming Live on Facebook @ 5 p.m.

Charming acoustic guitar songs rife with sweet truth and stabbing honesty, Matt the Electrician is a local and personal favorite. One of my highlights from ACL Fest 2016, his subtle sweetness and impressive songwriting chops mesmerized an early afternoon crowd. Last week’s live stream bounced with fan interaction, talk of buying islands, and fantastic, touching music. If you’ve never checked out Mr Matt, please take this opportunity to do so. You won’t be disappointed.

Who are you looking forward to checking out via live stream this weekend?
